Dress Scraps Repurposed

LookUpTazGully, on April 19, 2017 at 10:10 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 14

I bought my dress at a bridal consignment shop. It was originally size 14 with a long train. I wear size 4 and our wedding is outdoors (so the train was removed). Now that my dress is nearly finished, I have a lot of material left over. I'd love to make it into something new - any ideas?

ETA: The materials are lace with some tulle and what I believe is taffeta or something similar as the lining beneath the lace.

One of my friends had lingerie made with her dress scraps. not too sure of what company she went with though.

I don't know your religion, but it's a tradition in my family to turn wedding dresses/scraps into christening gowns for future children.

Or you could turn them into handkerchiefs for the wedding/after

Is there enough to make a dress for a flower girl? I know someone who made a bouquet of roses out of a satin type material... maybe you can do something similar.

I like the lingerie idea! I used some extra fabric I had from something to make my own ring pillow.

You could make a ring pillow, add lace edging to your veil, make a garter if you're having one, or some could be set aside for a memory box or scrapbook. I am hoping to have a tiny piece of mine made into a necklace but I'm still looking for a good company to use.

ETA I'd love to see a pic of this dress (especially a before and after pic!)

Also, if you have a ton extra, there are organizations that will take it and make gowns for babies to be buried in. That is what I did with my dress from my first wedding, I donated to NICU Helping Hands in Fort Worth Texas.

My mom insisted on taking my leftover lace to add to an envelope bag she's making.

I was hoping to use my dress scraps to make a clutch bag. We will see how it goes!

I love the lingerie, pocket square, and necklace idea! Any vendors for those?

@WWJo I have my final fitting in about two weeks - I'll post them when the transformation is complete! Smiley smile Smiley smile
