Dress scam?

Susan, on July 1, 2022 at 8:14 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 5
I ordered and paid in full for my wedding gown in March from a bridal shop near me. The owner mentioned she was relocating her shop to Raleigh, but my gown should arrive in June. The shop is closed and she is not returning texts, emails, voicemails or Facebook messages. Did I just get scammed out of a gown and money?
I am starting to panic as we are less than 2 months away from our wedding! I am at a loss of what to do now.

Do you know the address of the new location? If so definitely go into the shop in person.

Try to breathe, you will figure something out. If you can't get to them try to go to David's bridal and buy something off the rack. You will look beautiful regardless of what you wear!

The thing is there is no new location. There is no new Raleigh shop. Her shop here Is closed and she is MIA.

First of all, I am so sorry that you are going through this. Wedding planning is already stressful as it is. 😟

Since you are unable to get ahold of her, I would report the transaction to your bank/credit issuer. Dispute the charge since you never got your order. Hopefully, you’re able to get that money back.
Next, look for ready to ship/rentable options for your gown. This will ensure that you get your dress in time for you big day. It’s very frustrating and stressful but you got this!

Did she have a social media presence? Any other brides sharing similar stories on her former store's social media page? I hate to say this, but it sounds super sketchy to me. I agree with the previous advice to reach out to your bank and report it. I might also reach out to a local tv station. This seems like something they would be willing to investigate for you!

So sorry, my fellow Bride, you have to deal with this mess while planning your special day. I would Absolutely dispute the charge and let the bank handle the rest. At the same time David's bridal will definitely have an alternative.
