Dress Regrets

Lauren, on February 5, 2021 at 1:24 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 5

I got engaged in April of 2019 and my fiance and I started planning for 2021 right away. We locked in the venue and date before Thanksgiving of 2019. Early 2020 (precovid) I thought I found a dress I loved and purchased it.

With Covid and having to scale back our plans (300 person wedding), I haven't been as excited about planning in general. We're in SoCal and things are still VERY restricted and I doubt we'll even get to have a 50 person wedding. My fiance keeps saying I can still wear my dress (that he's never seen) even if we just go to the courthouse, but I don't want to wear it at all now.

I'm not sure if it's the dress I don't like anymore or just all the emotions, but feel like I jumped the gun and wasted so much money.

Are any other Covid brides having similar feelings?

Hello Lauren - I had to modify my wedding plans from a 250 person destination wedding in New Orleans to a 20 person wedding in Destin, Florida. Honestly, I got to the point where I was okay with the modified wedding plans because it was much less stressful (and less expensive), and I was able to splurge on things I otherwise wouldn't have. I did struggle through with wearing the wedding dress I had purchased because it was over the top and screamed "I'm have a large wedding soiree in New Orleans." I picked that dress pre-COVID because I could see myself in that dress second-lining down the streets of New Orleans with my new husband and our family and friends. I thought it might be too much for my modified COVID wedding. Eventually, my sisters convinced me to wear my wedding dress -- even with the wedding modifications. I'm SOOOOO glad I did. It was no less beautiful even though our plans changed. I'd say don't cheat yourself from having the wedding experience you want -- even if you don't get to have the big celebration!

I think it's just all the emotions. Times like these bring crazy feelings.

I agree with everyone else. It makes sense yo feel upset and sad. I’m also in So Cal and feel your pain. Are you planning to have a sequel wedding? If so, that may provide you with another opportunity to wear your dress. I’ve also seen several people still wear their original dresses yo the smaller wedding.

We’ve decided to have a minimony and larger celebration later where I plan to wear my previously purchased dress during the larger celebration

I suspect it's the emotions. I agree with your significant other, yiu can still wear the dress no matter where you marry.

We’ll probably do a big party for our 1 year anniversary, but we did decide on courthouse ceremony and dinner with our wedding party and immediate family.
