Dress regret??

Mallory, on September 15, 2019 at 3:14 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 1 21
Okay y’all, i bought my dress in august 2019. we are getting married in october 2020, and i’m having major dress regret! i have a mori lee that’s VERY sparkly, and i really love it every time i go back and look it at.... however, when i’m thinking about how it will look with our barn venue with a rustic/vintage theme, it really worries me. i feel like i’m only having this feeling because it’s so far away, and because i’m already an indecisive person. has anyone else worried that their dress is too much compared to the venue and “theme”? help! 🤯

Also, it doesn’t help that i can’t find pictures of ANYONE online wearing my dress other than the model!

Can you post a pic of the dress, even if it’s just the model?

I totally understand where you’re coming from. I’m also having a barn wedding and worry that my dress is a little too fancy, but i still want it to be nice and classy. Mine has a lot of beading on the bodice so I was a little worried but I think that can look really nice with a more rustic venue. You can also class up your “theme” to go with your dress!

I can’t find pictures of anyone in my dress either, not even a model. It’s labeled as “private collection” so I have nothing to search with. I’m sure your dress is beautiful and I don’t think it matters if it doesn’t fit your venue. I also am having a barn reception and I’ve seen girls wear all kinds of different styles for the barn weddings.

Don’t regret it!! I’m sure you picked the dress because you felt like it was right. To be honest, if people talk about how your dress doesn’t match they are just plain picky!!!

Omg! I'm having the same feeling, I bought my dress on August 2019 and my wedding is April 2020....I keep looking at other dresses! And wondering if I should have waited. Just keep thinking about the feeling you got when trying on and buying the dress! That's what I've been doing.... guess I'm convincing myself that YES, I bought the dress because I loved it!

I bought my dress in august of last year for our november 2019 wedding. There were a few moments in this last year where i wondered if i should have waited. No one is more indecisive than me.
In the end, every time i went to a dress fitting i remembered what i loved about the gown. So dont overthink it. I got a killer deal on a 1400 gown because someone was overthinking their decision and had to sell it on ebay...you dont want to be that person lol

I might be in the minority here, but I don't think your dress has to match the venue perfectly. If you love the dress itself and how you feel in it, and your only concern is that it doesn't scream "barn rustic/vintage," I wouldn't worry.

Getting married in a barn was my dream venue scenario. We ended up choosing a country club because it was actually cheaper than all the barns around here, lol. And I'm still trying to incorporate some of the more "rustic" elements that I originally wanted.

So tbh I actually think the vibe of your dress fits in with the price tag I have in my head about barns now, haha! But in all seriousness, barns seem to be pretty flexible backdrops, and I think your dress will look great.

I think a sparkly dress in a fall, barn wedding sounds lovely! It's nice when weddings are twinkly and romantic and all that good stuff.

Plus, like others said, you can use it to add a slightly more sophisticated flair to your decor.

What I've seen from others on here is this: once you've found the dress, stop looking! You LOVED the dress when you tried it on, so just let that be done. Smiley smile It's so hard because we can't keep putting it on over and over because we don't have them yet.

As long as you love the dress that’s what matters.

I am sorry that you are feeling this way. But this helpful to keep in mind looking forward. I never thought about how the dress would look at the venue. My fiancé and I have only been concerned with the general look of a dress.

The more sparkle in a barn, the better, as far as I’m concerned. (I love barns!)

This!!! You can have a dressed up barn wedding. It kills me when people are like "oh, its barn wedding let me just wear blue jeans and a polo..." noooo!!!! This is not someones backyard (at least I'm assuming its not in your case). You can dress up any barn event! We are getting married in a very elegant barn that only does weddings! My dress isn't super fancy but I would definitely say it doesn't fit the traditional feel of a barn wedding dress! Do you girl! It will be beautiful! Remind yourself why you chose this dress!

I have not worried about that, however, if you think about it, your meant to stand in your wedding so some sparkle can't hurt, right?

I was not worried about my dress but afterward when i saw the photos i was like, WHY did NO ONE tell me by part for my braid was showing in the back, OR WHY did NO ONE tell me the food I ate when straight to my stomach overnight and I looked 3-4 months pregnant in my slim dress? That would have been nice to know LOL, but if you don't look at those photos EVERYTHING was magical and great. HA

One advice I received once you pick your dress stop dress shopping because there are always new styles coming out. Otherwise your gonna have the did “I pick the right dress” . When you picked it out did you have your moment did you feel beautiful if so stop searching. Your going to look gorgeous

You are not alone, I'm the same way, I was very indecisive, but what I did was I kept looking until I had the real real gut feeling that the dress was the one. My venue is a very elegant, upscale and vintage. So my Gown had to be no more than glamorous! So dress#15 was the one lol... all the ones before it I thought would do it, but when My daughter cried when I put on the dress, I knew that was the one! Also I felt sooo beautiful in it. I didnt want to take it off

I doubt it will be distractingly out of place, but if you really feel like it doesn't match I'm sure you can make it work. Maybe incorporate a little sparkle elsewhere to add a touch of vintage glam to the rustic.

It also seems normal to have a little bit of dress regret. I love my dress and I'm positive I picked it because it is exactly what I wanted, but I'm also indecisive! I just try to avoid looking at other dresses to keep that what if from creeping in.

Dress regret here too... Smiley sad Such a weird feeling. How can I go from saying yes to the dress and all excited to second guessing myself. I feel like maybe it's just a personality flaw in some of us, that we second guess everything all of the time. Maybe I'd feel this way no matter what. I don't know about you, but my dress is nonrefundable, so I couldn't change my mind if I wanted to. I really wouldn't worry about the venue though, I firmly believe someone is allowed to wear a ballgown to a beach if they so chose. It's a wedding, and a wedding dress is always appropriate at a wedding so don't let that hold you up. Smiley smile Just try to get past the doubt and insecurities, see how you feel a month or two in. Some people change their mind and find SUPER cheap dresses online now that they know what they do/don't like. Smiley heart

There was a dress i really loved but ultimately decided against for that reason. It was gorgeous but way too glam for a barn wedding
