Dress Regret!!

on December 17, 2019 at 12:37 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 10
I ordered my dress back in October and paid it off in full and now I am having the WORSE case of dress regret. I know this is common and I thought it would go away but it just seems to be getting worse!

I purchased a Stella York ballgown (6959), which is totally not the style I thought I’d go with. I felt SO beautiful in the dress, but only a day or 2 after ordering it I felt like I rushed the decision and have had dress regret every since. My sister took terrible pictures of me in the dress, and the dress was HUGE on me, even pinned back, so that doesn’t help the situation.
I don’t know if I’m overthinking it (I have a habit of doing that with everything) or if I really don’t love my dress anymore. Please share any similar situations you had and any helpful advice!
Thanks so much!

I also ordered a Stella York! I was having second thoughts about mine and then when I picked it up and tried it on (the correct size this time) I felt much better. Does your store have a return policy in case you don't love it when it comes in? You could always sell it and try again.

That is a gorgeous dress. I had dress regret as well. I went to another salon and tried on more and was reassured about my choice. Does another salon in the area have that dress in a closet size to what you ordered to get a better feel of what it will look like in the correct size?

I feel like a lot of people have dress regret because they aren’t trying the dress on that is custom to them. I would wait until you try on the correct size to make a decision.

Very common feeling. If you can, go back to the store and try it on again- if they still have the sample. It might put your mind at ease- it helped me. Also, delete the photos. I promise you that you will continue to pick it apart.

I purchased a Stella York too! It is nothing like the dress I thought I wanted. It was more than I wanted to spend and I thought I grabbed a different dress when I pulled it off the rack. The sample dress the store had was two sizes too small. Ultimately, I fell in love with it. I put it on 4 separate times during the one appt. However, I couldn't justify buying the dress without having tried it on in my size. I found a store that was able to order the dress in for a weekend in my size. When I put the dress on in the correct size....I hated it. I then tried on more dresses and didn't love any of them. I ended up buying the first dress with the mind set of "I've loved it before, I'll love it again" and now I have to wait 4-6 months for it to come in and I am trying not to stress. I paid in full so whats done is done. Weather I love it or not in 10 months, it's my dress.

Do you know how long it’ll take to come in? It can sometimes help a lot to see the dress in your actual size. Maybe try calling around to stores that carry the dress and see if they have a smaller size you can try on if it’ll take a while.

I loved my original dress for about 2 weeks, i raves about it to everyone i knew. then I started to question my decision. It came in at the end of the 3rd week, and I put it on when I got home, and I had never felt more awful in an article of clothing before in my life. I felt like it made my hips look enormous, and I just felt hideous. I sat on it for about 4 months, trying to convince myself to like it again. I couldn’t do it. I went back to the store when my mom was back in town and I exchanged that dress my the dress I have now, which I know was honestly my favorite from the 1st time I tried on dresses and I regret talking myself out of it then. I tried it on when it came in, and it was perfect, everything I had hoped it would be. And I still love it.
Long story short, try to get a sense of how it would really look on you in your size before making any decisions. There’s a good chance the way you’re feeling is caused by only really seeing the dress on you in a size that doesn’t come close to fitting and that’s not how it’s really going to look. If you have the time to wait, I would wait and think about it and weigh your options.

I agree with the other posts that maybe you will love your dress more when it is tailored to you. I felt the same way about my dress. I didn't really care for dress shopping all that much, so I picked out my dress based on the fact that it wasn't heavy, and I could move in it (what I mainly cared about). I am short and petite, so I did not like how the sample looked on me all that much - it was huge, and I had so many clips on me to keep the dress up! My dress came in a week ago, I tried it on, and it fit soooooo perfectly. I didn't want to take it off! I knew it was the dress, and I am so glad that I ended up getting it.

The dress is beautiful, I would try it on again. You may fall in love with it all over again.

I think it's easy to have a sense of doubt because we try it on (in an improper size) for like one minute, then take it off and don't see it again for 4-6 months! I know how you feel - I'm dying to get mine in my size and see it again (also Stella York!). Your dress is GORGEOUS and I think you will fall in love again when you try it on! Smiley heart
