Dress regret...?

Natalie, on February 5, 2020 at 2:00 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 14
Hey everyone,
I purchased a dress a couple weeks ago during my first appointment after trying on 6 dresses. I loved it at the time bc it did have a lot of features I was looking for and it was comfortable...but the bridal shop didn’t allow pictures until after buying and I’m not wild about how it looks in pics. I feel the wide straps/neckline makes me look bulky on top and widens my already wide shoulders Dress regret...? 1

I’m kicking myself for not trying on more dresses and wondering if this is a common experience or if I just need to chill out and let alterations do their thing. Maybe the cups are just too big for me? Trying to talk myself out of looking for another dress! Thanks!

I'm also concerned about having my shoulders look bulky/wide, but I can honestly say that I didn't get that from your photos at all. I think the way the dress fits your body makes you look very proportional and not at all bulky up top! Your dress is gorgeous and it looks amazing on you, but I totally understand the feeling of dress regret. If you REALLY feel like this isn't the one, I would ask the shop if they'd let you exchange it for another.

I think it looks stunning on you. Dress regret is a very common thing.

I think it looks great!! I don't see any extra "bulkiness" at all! Of course we each see our bodies differently and I was incredibly nit-picky during dress shopping, but honestly it looks gorgeous on you!

Thank you! Glad I’m not the only one feeling that way! I’ll give it a little while before I decide to stick with this dress or continue the search

Thank you! I’m probably being super critical of myself, just hate second guessing this decision!

Your dress looks beautiful on you!

On another note - I can’t believe certain shops don’t let you take pictures until you buy a dress! I’m so grateful the shops I went to allowed it, because that’s what helped me make a final decision. I knew which ones were my favorites. But, we left the shop - I looked thru the pictures for a night & went back the next day to buy it. Idk - it just doesn’t seem fair to me. Especially when we see ourselves differently in pictures & most shops don’t allow returns or exchanges.
But, in all honesty - you look stunning! If you’re still feeling this way down the road - maybe you can ask about altering the straps to be thinner or adding sleeves?
I’m sure you’re going to receive a ton of comments on here - saying that you look great...but, what ultimately matters is how YOU feel!

Thank you! Isn’t that crazy?? I didn’t think too much of it at the time since I loved the dress in person, but seeing pictures afterwards and seeing how differently it photographed made me realize how ridiculous the no pictures policy is 🙄 I did consider maybe altering the straps like you said - I’m not sure what alterations are possible but it can’t hurt to ask if I’m still on the fence!

Yes! It really is crazy, I’ve tried thinking of logical reasons on why they prohibit pictures & I just can’t think of a good enough reason to keep brides from it. I truly hope that you end up happy with the dress the way it is. But, if not - I definitely think there’s ways to alter it to make you feel better

Not to worry, a seamstress can make the straps narrower. But I wouldn’t! As someone with broad shoulders, I never would say that about yours. And the way the dress is now is so flattering but n the bust and makes your waist so tiny!!!

I think you have a beautiful dress and your shape looks amazing!! ⏳ and not bulky up top at all!! I’m loving your train and I think you in the dress photographs just lovely. As you said you’ll prob love it more and more as it’s altered to fit your body.

We're our own worst critics and I literally think the same thing about my shoulders looking bulky but you look absolutely stunning! Not bulky AT ALL. I purchased my dress exactly a year out and have also had a little doubt in not looking more but I probably tried on 40-50 dresses and the one I bought gave me the "feeling". Only regret I have is not thinking more about shape wear that I can discretely wear under it, before I purchased it. lol We chose similar dresses Smiley smile
