Dress regret

Miranda Landry, on February 14, 2021 at 8:15 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 12
I’m having major dress regret and the more I think about how much I like this other dress better, the more I grow to hate the dress I have. Has anyone actually successfully sold a wedding dress? I’d be willing to lose a couple hundred. Mine hasn’t even come in yet. It’s brand new with no alterations, but I can’t cancel my order or switch my $1000 deposit to something else. I didn’t think I’d be so bothered, but I am. I almost felt pressured into finding something at the salon I went to because I drove over an hour with my mom and grandma to this place that was supposed to have the specific dress I called ahead for weeks in advance and they told me they took the style number down wrong and had me try on other dresses instead. After all of the trouble we went through to get to this place and dragging my grandma out with us, it almost felt like I had to find something at that point.

I haven’t known anyone who has successfully sold their dress. However you could wear one for ceremony and have a second dress for reception that way you don’t lose your money. That’s what I’m doing because my first dress purchase ended up not being formal enough.

That’s such a good idea and I’ve thought about it, but money is already tight for our wedding so I’m not sure if we’ll be able to splurge a couple extra thousand for another dress Smiley sad
Thank you for the advice though!

I don’t know anyone who’s successfully sold their dress. With your date over 1 year away you do have time to sell it, oncewed.com , still white.com etc. However, try it on before you pull the trigger. You might fall in love with it again!

I have never sold a dress, but my old roommate sold her unaltered dress on still white.com. She purchased the dress for $2500 and sold it for $1700. I’m not positive how long it took her to sell it, but I know it was at least 4-6 mos. Hope this helps!

I haven’t sold a wedding dress. But, I’ve successfully purchased 2 dresses online (new, with tags and unaltered). One for the ceremony and one for the reception. Try StillWhite.com or PreownedWeddingDresses.com.

I sold my dress on Poshmark in 2 weeks. I spent $3000 on it and sold it for $1600. I had regrets about it and when we rescheduled I let myself go shopping again. SO glad I did it and I love my new dress!!! My advice is to post on Poshmark, Still White and other sites like that. also when you do go shopping again, do not buy it right away. definitely sleep on it and try it on again on a different day. you don’t wanna go through it all over again

If you don't want to get rid of it and want to try to make it work, maybe you could make some alterations to it, so it becomes more of what you are looking for. If you do plan to sell, I would also check to see if there is a wedding dress consignment shop in your area you may be able to sell it to.

May I ask what do you dislike about the dress?
