Dress regret!

Isabella, on July 27, 2020 at 7:39 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 9
Ao i purchased my dress back in November 2019. It was the very first thing i got checked off of the planning list after getting Engaged in August. I am not having serious doubts as i only tried 3 dresses before making my decision at Davids Bridal. I am not seeing a lot of mixed reviews on if i can even exchange my dress for a different one when i go back to try on again. I kniw what i am looking for not that my bridesmaids have their dresses and our color/theme has changed (due to pandemic making us delay). Anyone else get a dress drom DB and then was able to exchange? Or have dress doubt 4 months from the wedding? Im feeling a bit crazy but wanted yo reach out and see what everyone else has done or if youve experienced anything similar.

I have occasional doubts about my dress, but looking at my dress and/or trying it on makes me remember why I bought it. There are still things about it that I wish were different, so I am planning to have a seamstress alter my dress a little to make it my dream dress.

What are your concerns with your dress? Is it possible to have a seamstress alter those parts of it to make it into a dress you'd feel more confident about? For example, if you don't like the neckline, check whether a seamstress can modify it into something you like better. Otherwise, if it'll be cheaper to buy a new dress, or if you don't feel that modifications would help make your dress into your dream dress, I recommend asking about the exchange policy. Look up dresses ahead of time to start getting an idea of what you'd like to exchange it for.

From what I’ve read from fellow brides, DB is adhering to a strict return policy.

I have also had my dress of dress doubts/regrets...having bought a dress, returned another...and now having my dress I still second guess, “Is this it?” I just go back and try it on and realize it is, that I love it, and even though I could find 100’s of other dresses that could be the one, this is the one I’ve chosen. It is perfectly normal. Some brides have bought new dresses within month(s) of their wedding date. But just know you probably won’t be able to return that dress you’ve purchased, and it may be difficult to sell if you can and it will be much less than what you paid. Trust me, I’ve had a dress online for a few months that hasn’t sold yet and I’ve had to significantly reduce the price so far.

Before Covid you had until the day of the event to exchange for store credit. I’m not sure how it is now, I’ve heard that they made their return policy strict during Covid.

Here are a few pictures of my dress, the only thing im habing issues with is i am a bigger woman and feel some days it shows my belly line too much and some days im in love and dont think i should ever take it off. Thank you ladies for the input. I feel like im better off wearing this dress than fighting the return policy as i still do love it and will probably always think theres something better or newer like one of you had stated. Just glad to know second guessing it is normal.

It's not unusual to have doubts about a dress after the purchase, many have. The dress is beautiful, have you tried it without the belt? Maybe that will make you feel a little different. I'd also try some shapewear, that may help accentuate your curves the right way. But honestly the dress is beautiful and you look beautiful in the dress.

I think it looks great on you! I personally love lace and off-the-shoulder sleeves...but you have to love it!

I think it looks great on you! It seems like it's not so much that you're having regrets about the dress as that you're feeling self conscious right now, which is a feeling that comes and goes for most people. I really don't think you need to change anything about it, but if you can't get rid of that feeling, you could ask them to add a more structured layer of fabric underneath the skirt (or by a petticoat to wear underneath it) to give it more of an a-line silhouette, which would bring more of the attention to the parts of your dress that you feel more comfortable with.

I got mine at DB in January and was able to exchange it in May! Their policy is you have until up to your wedding date to exchange. BUT you must spend the same amount or more, you cannot spend less. They were very nice about it too! I think it happens a lot Smiley smile
