Dress regret - too much to fix

Ace, on February 4, 2021 at 1:30 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 9
Hi all,

I have been having some regret about my wedding dress choice. I am in general indecisive and am now wishing I went with something with more volume and possible lace throughout. I also feel that everytime I look at the bodice I think it looks bad and looks somewhat boxy. My fiance also said he doesn't like the mermaid style so I'm a bit concerned he would like something else better. I'm considering adding a tulle skirt overtop but originally wanted a more seamless look and am worried it would look cheap. The dress also bunches and this may help make it less noticeable..I want to alter the dress to have white cups and white lining inside as well. The seamstress I talked with said it may be easiest to find something white to wear underneath but I haven't had much luck finding anything that would work and not move around. My dress is about one-two sizes too large and the seamstress I talked with said it would be very difficult to cut the bodice since it has boning and beads. The crepe is also loose on my hips (when it's not clipped like in the pictures) and my seamstress said it would be extremely difficult to bring in the hips as the boning and lace beading is sewn down onto the crepe. My only idea is to find padded shapewear but I don't want seams to show through the crepe.I also originally wanted drop sleeves and a low back but tried on about 35 dresses and could not find all the features I wanted. My wedding is in 4 months so I had to get something off the rack.I was hoping I could alter the dress but it's sounding like I could have bought a more expensive dress with everything I wanted vs getting so many alterations.I am starting to feel very overwhelmed and looking for advice or tips on how I can fix it to make it more to my liking at a somewhat reasonable cost if possible. Thanks!

It definitely seems like you want to make that dress into a complete new dress. Is there a return or exchange policy on the dress?

Well, it helps you have the figure of a super model! I think you could find a tulle overlay that is either custom or doesn’t look cheap. I think that’s the way to go. I think the dress looks amazing on you!

You have an amazing figure & that dress is gorgeous on you! Personally, I wouldn’t change anything. The accessories (veil, jewelry etc) is really going to make your dress pop!

Wow, whish I was that small to be able to wear a dress like that. Im a size 4, but my bust is DD/DDD and it's a struggle.

Maybe you could use a peri coat to give your skirt more oomf and possibly ad a belt

Have you considered an underskirt, rather than an overskirt? That might lend you more volume.

I think you look great and agree, you wouldn't change a thing--but I would definitely agree that you should check into the shop's return policy.

Thank you, ladies, I really appreciate the support and the input Smiley heart Unfortunately, the return policy is pretty strict with no returns, probably something I should have been more cautious of when purchasing. Thankfully I have found an amazing seamstress that can basically do anything I like which is already helping me feel a lot better about the dress. I'm also looking into thin overskirts. If you have any suggestions let me know.
