Dress Regret-help!

Samantha, on October 24, 2019 at 3:49 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 5

Hello brides to be,

I am seriously having some dress regret right now. I am feeling I jumped the gun on purchasing my dress. I bought my dress in April and I'm not getting married until September 2020. I know I shouldn't have done it but I looked at some of the new dresses online and now I feel like I made the wrong choice in my dress. I feel like I should have bought something with sleeves as I am feeling really insecure and uncomfortable with my chubby stretch-marked arms. I feel like once the big day comes I'll look at my pictures and be upset with how my arms look in my pictures. I am regretting my decision of not trying on my more dresses. Basically, all I tried on was ball gown style dresses and I didn't get to see how I looked anything else. Everyone I have talked to said that they don't think they will be able to add sleeves to my dress and that really freaks me out. I don't want to be uncomfortable on my big day. I'll attach a picture of my dress. Any advice would be much appreciated! Thank you!

So first off, I think that dress is super pretty! Do you have a picture of you in the dress you can post?

Second, I think you have a few options:

    1. Add sleeves to the dress or buy a shawl/bolero/sweater to wear with the dress.

    2. If in budget, buy another dress or sell your current dress & buy another. If you do this, I'd do it ASAP. My dress took 7 months to arrive and another 3 for alterations.

    3. Work on your arms with a personal trainer or at home with the Tone It Up app (or any at home workouts) or just at a gym by yourself. There is nothing wrong with setting a goal to lose weight/get healthier by your wedding and tons of brides do it. You could also try the methods like rubbing vitamin e oil, cocoa butter, or lotion into your stretch marks to help them fade. I notice my stretch marks in my legs only when I'm not tan, I feel like when I use self-tanner or tan in a bed, they are WAY less noticeable. You could also look into chemical peels, microdermbrasion, microneedling, etc. with a good esthetician in your area!

Whatever you do, it should be what makes you happiest on your wedding day. If you liked yourself in the dress you posted originally, I bet it's not as bad as you are thinking with the regret & it really is a beautiful dress on you! It's hard looking at other options that you didn't try on, you'll always get overwhelmed and wonder if you made the best decision. You could always consult your friends & see what they think about the dress too?

Oh, I love your dress!!! I think before you make any BIG decisions you should talk to a seamstress to see if added a sleeve is possible.. it certainly looks doable, but who am I!

I agree it's a beautiful dress. However, based on past posts, one of the advantages of buying a dress from DB is they are frequently flexible about letting your exchange it for another of equal or greater value. Have you asked?

Easy fix is a little sleeved tulle jacket. Or have a seamstress add tulle sleeves. I am sure it looks better in real life on than you think it does.

If it makes you feel any better I had three different wedding dresses. I only worn two of them. The one I didn't wear was the very first one that was purchased. I was tired of shopping so I just settled on a dress. The second one I really liked, but didn't love. I ended up getting a third one about a month before the wedding. I was looking for an after party dress and I tried on a ballgown for the fun of it and I fell in love with it so I had the second dress shortened and worn that for my after party. My parents paid for all three dresses because my mom insisted on buying my wedding dress and she wouldn't let me purchase any of them. My suggestion is to add sleeves or see if David's Bridal would allow you to exchange the dress as they are often very flexible and like to make the customers happy. If you aren't happy with either of those options, then if you have extra move in your budget I would purchase a new dress.
