Dress regret, can i change the silhouette?

Chloe, on January 16, 2022 at 3:27 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 5
So I recently purchased my wedding dress and now I’m not sure if I love it. I have tried on NUMEROUS dresses and am usually a very indecisive person. (I bought 20 dresses before I found the right one for my engagement photos). After trying on all the different styles I had my mind set on a sheath or a fit and flare, but the dress I ended up buying is more of an a line. The boutique I purchased from has a no return/exchange policy so now I’m kind of stuck.
The dress I did purchase has all the elements of all the other dresses I’ve tried on that I loved. The only thing I don’t know if I love is the shape.
So my question is, has anyone had luck altering their dresses to a completely different silhouette and do you think it would be possible for my dress to be altered to a sheath or a fit and flare?

I think a sheath might be tricky but a fit and flare could well be do-able. Talk to a seamstress - alterations plus the right petticoat will make a big difference!

That’s dress is beautiful on you!

Maybe a fit & flare is possible. But not a mermaid, the structure is too different. Find out how much the alterations will cost. Sadly, it may be cheaper for you to buy an all new dress.

It is definitely possible to change the shape of dresses, but often times it is more expensive than just purchasing a whole new dress. For what it’s worth, I think the silhouette is gorgeous on you! It is a very modest A line (i’d say borderline sheath already). And the very slight flair to the skirt really helps to balance out your upper body and creates a beautiful figure.
