Dress Question

Lynne, on February 2, 2022 at 11:17 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 7
Tomorrow morning I have an appointment to find my dress. As of tomorrow I have exactly 6 months until I say "I do".
Any specific recommendations on what to wear? I plan on wearing hipster panties (nothing to high on my waist), a basic bra. FH thinks I need to wear a shoe that I want to wear for the wedding but I think the shoe is more important when it's time for alterations.
Trying not to stress. I'm excited for tomorrow, I have about 12 dresses to try. I've already tried 9 on dresses.

The shoe is definitely more important for the alterations than the shopping. I just wore a strapless bra and regular underwear both times I went dress shopping. The biggest thing is to keep an open mind and try on an array of styles. I originally thought I'd go for an a-line but ended up trying on a fit and flare I absolutely fell in love with and thought I looked amazing in.

I originally thought I wanted tea length but the 2 I tried on did not make me smile. I never wanted a ballgown so I never tried one on until a few weeks ago at my last appointment and loved it. Ballgown definitely hides my problem areas. I do kind of like the a-line dresses

You're right that the shoes are only important when it's time for alterations. I brought a nude bra and nude underwear, but I didn't end up needing the bra, as all the dresses I tried had inbuilt support. I recommend clothes that are easy to take on and off if you're going to several stores, as loads of buttons or snaps or whatever gets old very fast and putting the dresses on and off alone is tiring.

if you know there is a type of shapewear you'd really like to wear on your wedding day, you might find it helpful to wear it so you can make sure it's covered by the dress you pick, but that is only if you're deadset on a particular style or brand. Otherwise, just relax and have fun

I’m going to break the trend as I ordered a Casablanca gown and was able to have it customized to my sizing. So the shoe was important for me at the first appointment as the alteration person at the shop would not adjust the hem on the dress I bought (it’s very intricate). As a result, the only alteration we did when the dress arrived was add a bustle.

I think a reason to bring high heels is because dresses usually come super super long and it might be easier to try on and walk around a bit. Of course the dress will be later hemmed but when trying on, higher heels might help!

I tired on dresses at davids bridal and the person helping me brought me shoes to use during the trying on process.
Good luck and have fun Smiley smile

I say your FH is spot on (good on him!)
Wear heels in a height that is comfortable to you. It does help to have an idea of what you will look like in heels because (let's face it), certain parts are accentuated while in heels, and he's the one looking.

I brought shoes to my appointment and didn’t touch them. I wouldn’t worry about the shoes. Or even really the under garments. I took my bra off for my appointment and just wore my panties.
