Dress preservation after wedding

Latonya, on July 18, 2019 at 4:43 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 1 17
Do I really need to clean and preserve my dress after the wedding? What exactly am I cleaning and preserving it for? It will litterally collect dust in the closet because I will not wear it again.

    I've always wondered that too.
I do need to clean mine, i got some mud on it during our photos but I'm probably going to have it turned into a baby blessing gown next year so I'm not sure preserving it is necessary.

My mom literally stuffed hers into a black garbage bag 30 years ago and it looks fine today. My aunt had hers preserved and it has yellowed significantly in less time.

I feel you. We will not be having kids to hand it down to so it will never be worn again. I will probably keep it in the garment bag for a while and once I get tired of the space it is taking up, I will probably try to sell it or donate it.

Even if I have kids...I doubt my daughter would want to wear an out of style wedding dress that's 30 years old lol

If my dress is able to be dyed, I may shorten it and give it a light wash of color to wear it again to future formal events.

    Otherwise, I'll likely sell it.

Following... because i want to know too, haha. I will probably sell mine or dye it if i can, but i paid less than $300 for it (bhldn), so i don't see the point in preserving it.

I ask myself the same exact thing. I mentioned to my fiance that I want to sell my dress after the wedding. Omg, it's like I told him I dont want kids. He kept going on how his mom kept hers. I told him "oh yes, she brings it out all the time to show." I also told him if we do have kids, itll be too old for her to wear. My mom is a hoarder. She wants to keep it "for memories." He has said the same thing. I told him to stop saying that cause that doesnt work with me. Plus I told him hes not keeping his tux. But in the end he told me to do what I want, which I will lol.

I know of one girl who puts on her wedding dress every few years for their anniversary to "relive" the day. I thought that was sweet.

Donate it or sell it instead! I bought my dress second hand and was really appreciative that I could get a nice dress within my budget.

I cleaned and preserved my dress after our wedding and now it is in a closed box. It does take up a bit less room in a box but I’m with you in not seeing the point lol

I specifically chose 2 separate pieces for my dress because I will make sure to wear at least the top portion at some other event, I'll have to figure out the bottom part. My sister in law paid and extra $500 to have her dress preserved in some special peek hole box that she can look through as it hangs in her closet.

I did because I spilled a lot of stuff on it aha and it was dirty on the bottom with dirt and grass. After I just put it in a garment bag. My friend totally didn't clean hers and just threw it in a box after. Which honestly is kind of gross if you think about it because she spilled cake and food on it xD so I would say if you're going to spill things on it then you'd want to clean it at least even if you aren't wearing it anymore

You are preserving it for any children or grandchildren who might want to wear it or have it. And who knows ya might wear it- sometimes it’s fun to dress up in fluffy stuff!

I wanted to wear my mother's, but she sat in her chocolate cake and is shorter than me so I couldn't! Very bummed she didn't clean hers.
So I'll be cleaning mine because I wanted to wear my mother's can couldn't.
If you don't want to keep yours you should still clean it and sell it or donate it. A cleaned dress will sell for more money.

I am having mine cleaned because I’m having it dyed blue and altered into a renaissance festival ballgown after the wedding so I can wear it every year. If I had no intention of wearing it again I’d just donate it.
