Kelly, on May 31, 2020 at 8:01 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 12
Hello! I remember seeing a thread with a similar question but i cant seem to find out now. The dress i want to order is from azazie, i thought waiting to place the order would be a good idea because i was hoping to lose some weight. But im unsure of when to order the dress if the wedding is april 2 of next year and so that i will hve time if i need alterations?

Hi Kelly, pre-pandemic gowns can take anywhere from a year to six months to come in, then you may need a minimum of two to three months for alterations. Given your wedding is in April, you definitely want to go dress shopping now to give yourself as many options as possible. I would also order the gown in the size you are now. I made the mistake of ordering two sizes down with the intention to lose weight. Turns out I didn’t lose much and in fact gained weight with all the wedding planning stress and pressure to lose 60 lbs. Luckily for me, the pandemic forced us to postpone our wedding to next year and I now have another 14 months to drop the weight. You can always alter your gown to get it taken in if you lose the weight. Don’t put that stress on yourself and find something that looks great today. Best of luck to you!

As PP said, it's better to order now. COVID has certainly backed up shipping times! Have you tried their dress on? They have the try at home feature for many dresses. Then you'll also know how it fits you and what size to get (besides measurements).

I bought my dress from Azazie. I ordered it the end of February and received it the end of April, They said it would come early May. My wedding is June 27th. My dress was custom ordered and came before the date they said it would. If I were you, I would make sure to continue checking their production time. Apparently it changes depending on the season and how many orders they are recieciving. So from my own experience, I would trust the time they say your dress will be delivered. I also read other posts and reviews and people have received in the time frame Azazie gave them. Just make sure you give yourself a few weeks to a month before your wedding to receive it.

Azazie’s production time is only 5 weeks right now so you’ve got plenty of time! I would wait to order.

Azazie is quick. They also do custom sizing. If you opt for that, you can decrease the need for alterations.

Right after Christmas at latest. When you have a dress made to careful measurements early January, it should not need much altering at all. When you can, for a major weight loss, you look at your best at least 3 months after you stop dieting. Your hair oils come back so hair is shiny again. Loose skin is slowly tightened up, dying cells replaced with fewer over a couple months. You rebound to 6-8 pounds from your lowest, as fluids stableize. You get healthy color back . Hair that has been splitting can get a good cut or trim 2 months after you stop dieting, and know that with oil levels restored, it won't split much. Before measuring, buy foundations, any bustier, longline, halter bra. or simply a new one of your usual. Wear the heel height you intend. Stand with good posture. And when you measure natural waist line just above navel to floor, then under arm to floor, they will calculate 2 inches up from the floor ( the standard we call floor length, so to anyone standing or sitting it appears to skim the floor or toes, but is actually high enough mot to step on ( you or your dance partner.)
If you do that, you likely will not even need hemming. Mine was made a few years ago when the shortest parts of dresses were dragging or " puddling", and had a train. I did not want one, but wanted the shaped edge. So I had them make to order. 4 layers, perfect hem to measure. No alterations. zip. This is the benefit of having it done at 4 months of less, you barely change.

Azazie's production time predictions are generally pretty accurate, so I'd wait and watch their production time predictions as you get closer. They normally don't take long, so you could even wait until fall if you wanted to take summer to drop some weight, as you mentioned. The dress picture you posted looks amazing!!
