Dress of my dreams.. but..

Unfortunately this is why you're not supposed to try dresses on outside of your budget. It is a beautiful dress. Can you cut costs in other places? Or possibly make payments on it that can make it not feel like such a huge cost and is that ok with your fh? Also don't forget to consider alteration cost into this. Have you been shopping for a long time or was this one of the first dresses you tried?

I'm sorry this happened but, you are never supposed to try on a dress that is out of your budget.

Ok so what's done is done I think pointing out that she shouldn't try on a dress out of her budget is not helpful.

Do you know the designer? Style number? Check out preownedweddingdresses.com and poshmark I know there are a few others hopefully someone knows the rest of them!!! These sites usually have wedding dresses at a fraction (used/new (someone changed their mind/sample) Good Luck!!!

Try DH Gate. They're from China but wonderful quality! Im ordering mine for $200 and to get it from the designer is $2,000 just read the sellers reviews.

I also dont understand why you would try on something you can't afford. Sorry that your sad, but you kind of set the stage for that.

I know it doesn't help now, but really try and avoid trying on dresses you can't afford. People weren't trying to be mean, but they were trying to be helpful.

Just a tiny piece of advice coming from someone who bought a dress double her budget..don't cave and buy it anyways! I hope you can find something you love in your price range, or possibly this exact dress on preownedweddingdresses.com ! I put a dress on that I knew I couldn't afford, fell in love, put half on a credit card, and I'm still trying to recover lol. I know it may be your dream dress, is this the first one you put on? Have you tried other stores, or checked for sample sales? You could get lucky and find something similar! Best of luck to you!

If FH knew how much my dress was he would have said it is too much as well. I would say to try and cut costs else where because you do look great in it and can tell how much you like it. Some suggestions might be to not do Save the dates or favors if you were already planning to, or simpler invites instead of some extravagant that is more expensive, if doing alcohol do just beer and wine and not a full open bar, or even to try and cut out some people on the guest list.

She offered to help make payments on it. She has been at her job for over a year and makes pretty good money. J told her I didn't feel right doing that. She has talked to her other sisters and they all want to help. I appreciate it but I'm looking for another alternative. So in some ways sure it's "my fault" but I don't regret trying it on because for that brief moment I felt the most beautiful I've ever felt and shared a sweet moment with my daughter

Just stopping by to say you look amazing! 17 year old daughter? I honestly thought you were in your 20s.

Also definitely keep your eyes peeled on some of the sites PPs have mentioned, but in the mean time try going shopping in person again, give the stylist a firm budget and maybe you'll fall in love with something else! We all understand finding your dream dress that is "the one" but we also see a ton of ladies being torn after falling in love with more than one, so it is possible! There are so many beautiful dresses out there. Good luck!

My best friend got the designer and style number from her dress then looked it up on eBay. Found it for less than half what they were asking in-store. It was much larger so she had to have it taken in but it was still so much less.

That dress is beautiful and really a good price considering it's a wedding dress. I found a few with similar features on Modcloth for under $300...certainly not dupes but they're pretty and a close silhouette.
