So I took my wedding dress and my bridesmaids dress to a seamstress who has done all of my formal dresses for me. She absolutely DESTROYED my wedding dress, she added this horrible modesty panel (which I did ask for just not in this fashion) didnt even sew it in correctly and took out a piece of fabric that pulled the front of the dress together. I have SEVEN days until my wedding and I have no clue what to do. When I tried the dress on the modesty panel just looks awful and becuase she took out the connecting strip of fabric the whole top of the dress pulls apart weird. Is there anyway I can fix this mess?!?

First of all, I am so sorry this is happening, but luckily removing and adding a new modest panel is super easy and any good seamstress can do that in just a few hours. For the strip in the front that holds the front together, did it just go connect the now disconnected white lime/seam across the chest? If so, then that's also not too bad of a fit if they already have the right fabric. Or a good seamstress can attach the modesty panel to the vneck in a way that holds the sides together.

It'll be okay!! Just call a ton of high reviewed seamstresses in the area and see if anyone has time to see you and help!

I am so sorry you are going through this. I'm currently in the midst of alterations troubles as well so I can totally relate and I know how upsetting it is. First: did you let her know that you aren't happy with it, and would you be open to letting her fix it? If she's done good work for you before then maybe she could fix it to be how you had envisioned it. If not, then get on your phone and social and start contacting anyone with good reviews and let them know the situation. You still have time, just take a deep breath and get calling. Have faith that someone will understand your situation and help you.

I’ve been trying to get into contact with her and she hasn’t responded to me. We are taking it to a difdebrt seamstress tomorrow who is going to try and fix it. When I put it back on today we also noticed that she ripped the tulle in a couple places and botched the hem job as well. We are hoping that she can at least make the dress look presentable so fingers crossed

Oh geez, yeah I probably wouldn't trust her to re-do it then. Best of luck. Nobody except you will notice any small tulle tears, and nobody else will notice the hem. I know it's still really upsetting, but just focus on getting that top back to looking right and nobody at the wedding will have any clue. Fingers crossed for you and sending you love Smiley heart

And just trying to prepare for "just in case" (like I have been in my situation), is getting another dress as a backup an option? I know horrible to have to even think about not wearing your own dress the way you had imagined, but it might make you feel better knowing you have a plan B. BHLDN has a lot of nice ones on sale right now, and ASOS has some really nice dresses too. You can always buy a few and return them if you don't wear them.

Deep breath! Can you take it to a bridal shop? They specialize in wedding dress alterations and if they do not think it can be fixed they could help you find an off the rack dress. You may pay more with the short notice. The hem looks fine to me from the picture but the modesty panel has to go. I’d fight for your money back at the original place too but first focus on getting this fixed or a new dress. Good luck! Keep us posted.

Your new seamstress can easily fix that. She will literally just take a pair of scissors and cut it to be even. But yes you should definitely get your money back from the original seamstress plus whatever it costs to fix the dress. After the wedding, if she has any online pages for her business you should definitely leave an honest review on every page you possibly can.

Serious question to your dress post:

What was the brand/designer name, and the size of the dress, and your street size?

Maybe I can help point you to a few options.

    Best,

    Elly

    Hi there,

I am SO SORRY you are going through this! Did you try it on at the seamstress before you took it home? I would have brought this to her attention immediately. Fortunately, you can have another seamstress fix this! Depending on the business of your new seamstress it can even be fixed on the same day. My seamstress does same-day service. Especially for a wedding dress that needs to be fixed within days Im certain, they could fit you in their schedule to get done ASAP.

    Goodluck to you!
