Dress help!!

Jennifer, on October 18, 2019 at 9:34 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 11
Has anyone had to wear a wedding dress slip fit and flare? Any recommendations on where to get one? This is my dress but the seamstress said she can’t hem the bottom without taking off the details on the bottom (we both agreed that we don’t want to do that). So my other options would be to wear super high heels - not willing to do. Or buy some sort of slip that will make the dress go out more .. which I also don’t really want but I don’t really have any other option 😭

Is your dress A Line? I would look on amazon for an A Line petticoat. You could also get one on David Bridal's website, but they're definitely pricier there. I've also seen some on the JJ's House website!

I agree with PP, an Amazon search for “long petticoat” will give you a ton of options. They’re not super expensive either, in the $20-40 range.

Your dress is GORGEOUS, my fitting isn't until Feb., but I already bought my slip, because I want a fit and flare style, Davids Bridal sells them in all styles.

Honestly i'd do the hemming over adding a slip to poof it out more. Unless that is the look you want of course! The applique lace is usually just sewn on so they'd remove it by hand, shorten it and then sew the lace back on. From everything i've read, that is a pretty normal alteration. Why don't you guys want to go that route?

    A. Try a different seamstress (mine was similar lace on the bottom and they could)
    B. I got one from David’s Bridal as well

Your seamstress can certainly hem that and keep the integrity of the details at the bottom. My dress is the same scalloped lace edge. My seamstress has to move the lace up. Very time consuming but most def doable.

I would definitely get a second opinion. I ordered my dress with the lace hem detached so my seamstress wouldn't have to remove it by hand first, but she still had to move some of the lovely appliques on my dress.

PPs are right, your seamstress should be able to remove the lace hem at the front to hem the gown, then reattach it. Working with these kinds of details is one of the reasons bridal alterations are expensive!

I bought my trumpet/mermaid petticoat from Amazon for $30! I don't have any pictures of it yet with my dress, but I think it looked better than the $80 one at Davids Bridal!!

But as other PPs have said, maybe get a second opinion from a different seamstress. I can't say if they can definitely hem it, but I know they are supposed to remove the lace details when hemming.

Your dress is very similar to mine and that makes me nervous that your seamstress said she can’t hem it. I start alterations next month but I’ve already paid my seamstress as she does a package deal. I’d try to find another seamstress and see what they say.

Here is the one I am using under my dress, which is A-Line. since it is lower to start poofing, it might be okay for yours. You might want to measure where you want it to start coming out.

    https://www.amazon.com/1950S-Unique-Vintage-Crinoline-Petticoat/dp/B074TC3P74/ref=asc_df_B074TC3P74/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=312679557084&hvpos=1o23&hvnetw=g&hvrand=7493229335255153404&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9028316&hvtargid=aud-802037562948:pla-571275588465&psc=1

and here's a pic so you can see how much it pulls it up (without it, my dress drags just a little).
