Dress from overseas? Which one?

I got my prom dress from a seller on there. It was inexpensive (like $75 shipped) and the only complaint I had was the closure on the halter strap. I would imagine there being quality to be found! Is there a review system now for sellers? I'm not sure I remember one, it's been years. Also, my personal preference is the first dress but I love the detail of the 2nd also.

My friend got her wedding dress here and it was really cheap looking. She even had it custom made for her. I have heard good stories but not all are good. Be careful

The picture you see isn’t the dress you’ll get. It’s a picture of a legitimate designer dress and someone steals the design and tries to recreate it. It’s not something I would risk for my wedding dress. I believe that picture is of a Berta design.

It's very dicey, I havent heard a good review yet on wedding dresses from that site. I would try Amazon or etsy first before possibly trying dhgate.

I took a chance and ordered a dress from dhgate. The seller had good reviews and I only spent $152 so if it didn’t work I wasn’t out of a lot of money. It was custom fit.

let me just say the dress I got was nothing like the picture and fit very odd. So poorly made I don’t even feel comfortable reselling it.

they have a process when you receive the item you have to click a check box that it has been received. The seller told me once I did this they would refund me. Little did I know once you click that box you are saying the item was acceptable and it is the seller choice to refund. Well I left a bad review bc of the quality of the dress so the seller refused to refund me, so I am stuck with the dress and will probably donate it.

so I now know why these places have good reviews despite the poor quality. The only way they will refund is with a good review.

every time I tried to reach out to customer service it was a dead end with no one to speak to and then I would get disconnected.

Please!!!! No! Do NOT risk the tears and horror of a cheap knock off dress.
I ordered an Adorable 1950’s “I Love Lucy” style black dress online and it came and was crookedly sewn, cheap fabric and soooo oddly sized I cried, for like an hour, as I was planning on wearing it to my friend’s funeral. I cannot imagine the heartbreak I’d’ve felt had it been my Wedding Dress!!!! Omg! Please learn from My tears and mistake and buy in store, or have custom done by someone you can go to!

I ordered from DH gate, I know it’s a gamble. Will see when it gets here. I requested pictures from them before it ships.
i ordered my dress for my first wedding on eBay from a reputable Chinese dress maker (in those days there were a lot less options and you could get recommendations from weddingbee). My dress was amazing!
im not attached to an exact replica. As long as it fits decently and is similar and is decently made I’ll be happy.
If it comes and is a wreck I have time to figure something else out! If you have time, do your research on the sellers and read the reviews. Read their policies and procedures. Ask for updates along the way, and photo before they send it.
if the seller speaks good English that’s a huge help. It’s not a risk everyone can handle taking. I don’t wear traditional dresses and am very particular so I don’t have a choice. If you have time, and feel adventurous go for it! I’ve heard of plenty of brides who have had good luck, they just don’t want to admit where they bought their dress.

EBay or aliexpress are more reputable and easier for customer service. Something similar to this is likely to be on amazon. If I only could find a dress I like on a site not so risky lol. I’d do that in a heartbeat.

Ugh that stinks!

One of the reasons sites like that also have good reviews is because they aren't real reviews most of the time.

I found a beautiful dress on Izi Dress sale but never ordered it bc I was afraid that if I didn’t like it, I wouldn’t be able to get a refund. So I found the same dress on eBay and got it because I know I can get a refund. I ordered it 6 months in advance in case it’s not a good dress, I can get another one, even if it is expensive.

Agreed. Berta will be super hard to replicate b/c everything is hand sewn and is very structured in order to fit correctly. If it's in budget, you can always try to purchase a second hand dress. If not, perhaps you can share your budget and maybe people here can suggest similar designs within that budget. For instance:

Try going to your credit card company and dispute it as the item was not what you recieved and they are refusing to respond to you. I had to do this with jjshouse (which I think is about 50/50 for people but I would also stay away from them) I was able to get my money back this way.

They look very similar to me, but I think I like the top one better, and I don't think it looks too "fall"!

ETA: After reading the above comments, I would take these pictures as inspiration and go to a physical store to see what you can find that looks like this, at a decent price.

It's worth a shot I think you have something like 6 months to a year.

I wanted something very particular I ended up having to hire a local designers to produce some sketches cuz I can't draw then I submitted the sketches people on Etsy to see what they could do answer a question they had any photos in their portfolio similar dresses I looked at a bunch and I narrowed it down to I think like 5 and then beginning to do their sketch of what they would do for the dress from them I really guess I worked out with one so I had her make the dress it is actually in the process of shipping right now and due this week however I'm pretty sure Etsy protects buyers

It has been like 7-8 months though

I have 10 until wedding if I hate it

I think they will just replicate designer dresses...so I would be carful. Both dresses are pretty.
