Dress fomo

Gilline, on February 11, 2021 at 9:45 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 8
I blindly went dress shopping for the first time at a sample sale in December and ended up buying this Willowby dress for half off. I really like it and totally fits my garden wedding, but have had a little bit of buyers remorse the day and following weeks after. I initially wanted an a-line with a V neckline, so it checks half of what my ideal dress would be. I tried on 10 dresses and didn’t really get to try on something that checked all my boxes since I didn’t want to fall in love with something over budget. There are some aspects I’m not in love with, but don’t specifically dislike. I’m getting it altered this weekend since it’s a sample size 12, but am wondering if I should go to another bridal shop and try on more dresses. I’m also worried that alterations are going to cost a lot and that I should buy something closer to my size (4) and just loosen up my budget.

I’ve heard dress fomo exists and maybe it’s just that. It all came together so easily that I feel like I’m missing out on a better dress. I’d love your opinion on my dress situation!Dress fomo 1

Your dress is gorgeous & very flattering on you, especially at the waist line. The details of the bodice that flows into the skirt is awesome. What accessories will you be wearing?

The dress looks beautiful and will fit great for a garden wedding.
I’d get an estimation on how much alterations cost. But generally, even if you get another dress in size 4, you’ll likely have to get the new dress altered as well.
If you really want to start over, you can try to sell your dress online to make up some of the cost.

I still feel like this as well, wondering if I made the right choice. I love my dress but at the same time I have FOMO. My current dress is perfect for the ceremony but I want it more sexy for the reception also with a V and deep plunge. I'm debating if I should alter the dress or buy a reception dress.

I think that is a nice dress on you and goes very well with your theme. I would suggest talking to a seamstress to see if they can change the neckline to a V and get pricing estimates, I'm pretty sure they can change it! Depending on cost, I would stick to the dress if it's not much to do. If it sounds like an unreasonable price then I'd get a new dress.

I say go try on more dresses and bring yours with you. You might rediscover the feeling that made you pick yours to begin with, or you might find something you love more. Either way, if you can afford it, you should do it so you don't feel dress regret.

BTW a street size 4 is a bridal 10, so you're not too far off right now at a bridal 12 (although samples are generally looser from having been tried on)

I would say look before altering. Then you can sell that one as is. Just a thought!

I bought the 4th dress I tried on and the others were not close to what I was looking for and didn't look good at all on me. When I had it on I didn't want to take it off and didn't want to try anything else. Now I think: how stupid. I love it but totally have FOMO. But I already took it in for alterations and will stick with it. My dress is exactly what I was looking for and when I look at dresses online I usually feel drawn to very similar dresses/details. I doubt that I could find a better dress. And still I wonder if it is really the most beautiful dress. Maybe I would have fallen in love with something else if I would have tried other sillhouettes, style, ... . Maybe I could have found something cheaper. Maybe. Maybe. But now it's too late. I won't try on dresses without intending to buy one just in order to calm my nerves.

No advice for you. But I think it's pretty common. Your dress is beautiful!

Thank you all! I ended up trying on several other dresses and it only made me realize that I loved the one I initially bought.

Actually Willowby doesn’t vary hardly at all from street size- they try to stay true to your normal dress size. I am a street size 8 and the one sample dress they had in an 8 fit me perfectly! The rest of the samples they had were a size 10 and they were all too large.
