DRESS EMERGENCY!

Caroline, on May 9, 2016 at 12:08 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 21

I need to vent a little about my dress issues!

I ordered in October, and had my first fitting last week. I tried it on, and it's so tight and 1.5" too short. My mom and I are both very upset about it and the seamstress kept telling me it'll be fine but the dress won't touch the floor. The sample I tried on was a 10 and huge on me, but a perfect length. The rep told me I wouldn't need extra length. When we ordered, we went a size up and was expecting the dress to come in massive. I haven't gained weight and I definitely haven't grown 2". The bridal shop (a high end store) isn't being very helpful and just keeps telling me it will be fine and to get new shoes. I bought these shoes since they were smaller heeled than the shoes I tried on with the sample. And I don't want to wear flats. Even comparing the pictures, it's clear the dress is just shorter overall. I'm so disappointed and don't know what to do! I'm going to get remeasured today, and hope we can come to a solution. Smiley sad

You should review your contract. Its sounds like they charged you for something they did not order. I would stay on them about the dress. you shouldn't have to get different shoes because of their error.

Sorry this happened to you - its weird the store wouldn't have known about the length.

I would go with flats. It is just shoes. Is there a reason you are so against them?

As for being too tight - the seamstress should be able to let it out for you.

    Good luck!

Yeah, that's BS. If the dress was the right length when you tried it on, and now it's shorter, that's on them and the manufacture.

Did you receive the size that you ordered or did they order the wrong size by mistake?

I agree with Jacqui. Check to see what they were supposed to order and compare it to what they actually ordered. My dress shop measured my length (with shoes on) and ordered my dress is being made-to-order based on that length. Did they measure your length (with shoes on) before they ordered the dress? If so, I'm thinking somebody messed up on the measurements.

It's labeled as a 12, which is the size ordered. But if you look at the 10 next to my dress, everything is longer. Even the flare is lower. I think either it's labeled wrong or the factory messed up. I'm just not sure where to go from here since it was perfect, and now it is very much not. I'd prefer to wear a heel, I'm on the taller side (5'10) and just want a little lift because it makes my posture better. I'm not a fan of small heels at all, so it's flats or heels and I won't be pleased in flats.

Ki- my shop never actually measured my height. They took my bust, waist and hips and the rep from the brand told me I wouldn't need length based on the sample and my height. I measured myself based on their original measurements and they still match, which the bridal shop will find out today. Either they misread my dress brand's size guide or the factory just made someone else's dress and labeled it my size.

I would not change my shoes. It sounds like it their fault, so they should fix it. Can they rush order on in the correct length and size? Also is it possible to add fabric to the bottom? It sound very fishy that a rep would not understand that it being the perfect length when way to big wouldnt add length.

The first place I went to look at dress they tried to convince me I was a a same size even though the size was wearing was so large that could put my arms down without exposing my self (without clips) and tried on a dress 2 sizes smaller (on the sale rack, same designer) and it was too large. I left without buying a dress because they were trying to scam me into alterations.

I would be raising hell after they refuse to help you. Sounds like they are just trying to brush off the mistake. I would keep telling them you don't feel comfortable with the length and you know the dress is shorter. I'm sorry you're having to go through this.

I'm so sorry this is happening to you. You need to stay on them until they do something to fix it! At the very least, they should exchange the dress for you. Do not let them brush you off! If you can see the differences between the sample size 10 and your dress in a 12, they can too!

Hi Caroline, I am so sorry you are going through this! I agree with @Ki - if you can see the difference between your size 12 and the sample size 10, the staff at the salon should be able to see it, too. They need to find a solution to whatever error was made, not tell you that you need to buy new shoes!

Please keep us updated as to any REAL solutions the salon comes up with, because simply buying new shoes will not make it all better!

Try contacting the national office for the designe, with photos of your dress vs the sample. If the length and flare are that much off from your measurements or their own sizing chart, they should make it right.

They didn't discuss your height at all when you purchased the dress? I went to war with the bridal shop over my gown because I'm 5'9 and they kept telling me that bridal gowns are made for 5'9 including shoes and that I was too tall for standard sizing. I refused to order the extra length since I've done it in the past for BM gowns and they've always had to cut 3/4 of the length off and they are still too long. The store did tell me that with my dress designer (Allure) the length of the gown was the same regardless of whether I was ordering a size 2 or a size 20 and the sample size I tried was in fact long enough to touch the ground. I didn't do extra length and my dress is long enough for a minimal heel but I am an inch shorter than you. If the sample was long enough for you to wear heels with then that leads me to believe it might be a sample with extra length already added? Either way they mislead you with the ordering process.

Oh heck no! Sorry this happened to you, they shouldn't be asking you to use other shoes because of their mistake! They need to come up with a solution asap!

The sample was a 10 and it was too big on you and the 12 came in too small and too short? Definitely sounds like a factory mess up. I use to work at retail and it didn't happen often but occasionally we would, for example, get in a dress that said 2 and it was huge and clearly labeled wrong. I would not take a refund at this point they need to get you a new dress.

Was the sample you tried on an extra length gown? If not, I don't understand what it could be. Unless it was so big that it hung that low?

I agree with Shania. The sample had to have extra length and they just didn't realize it.

The rep said it did not have extra length when I tried it on. The rep was 5' 9" and told me she didn't get extra length for hers because these dresses tend to be long. Ugh - I'm kicking myself for not just ordering the extra since I usually do for bridesmaid dresses. I just trusted the two pro's telling me not to!

Also the seamstress told me the size 10 must have stretched out from so many people trying it on (I get stretching, but it was a good two sizes larger than my current dress). I just feel that they're trying to brush me off. You guys have been wonderful so far, it's really making me feel better about going back today and giving me the courage to get this corrected! I will keep you updated with what I'm told tonight.

I did reach out to their corporate contact (very difficult to find a phone number), and hope to talk to someone and provide pictures as well.

I do feel strongly someone at the shop or factory messed up - I'm just hoping they're willing to fix it and can fix it in time!!

I'm actually surprised it's short on you. I bought my Allure dress off the rack, and I just barely do not need a hem while wearing 3.5 inch heels. I'm 5'10", so that makes me almost 6'2" in the heels, no extra length.

Either way, the sample should have been the same length as your dress so they need to fix that. The samples I tried on we're def stretched out, so they may be right on that one, but it doesn't explain the length.
