Dress dry cleaning/sample gown

Ka-Rina, on September 20, 2019 at 12:10 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 7
So it happened today.... I bought my dress and it gave me the chills and I'm so excited. Not only did it make me feel amazing it was also a same gown!!! So I ended up snatching it for $400 instead of $2000!!!!!!!
I do want to dry clean it and it does need so e alterations. The salon is charging about $200 for dry cleaning. Does that seem fair???

That seems fair to me. I have a sample gown too. If you have a bigger puffier dress it could affect cost, it’s a lot different than dry cleaning a little cocktail dress.

I don’t know about being a fair price as I haven’t had my dress cleaned yet.
But, I heard somewhere that you should
have your dresses dry cleaned before the wedding. In case the chemicals distort the color or something. Can’t remember where I heard it, but it caused me not to get mine cleaned before (it was also a sample dress).
Just something to think about or look into before deciding

Daughter paid around $120 just to have hers steamed before the ceremony (new dress, but salon didn't include steaming...). After the wedding, I believe she paid close to $200 to have it cleaned and packed into a preservation box. (Her dress was torn a little when the bustle broke while she was dancing, so it's highly unlikely anyone will ever wear it again. Daughter looked for one of the least expensive options she could find for cleaning after the wedding....)

Hey Ka-Rina! Congratulations on finding your beautiful dress! What is it like? Did you try on many dresses before you found the one?

I think that the price quoted to you by the bridal salon is fair as you certainly want someone who is used to working with bridal gowns to do this. With the colors and materials being so delicate, you want someone who knows what they are doing and is confident with their work.

Does your dress need much alteration work done?

$120 for steaming sounds very reasonable. I'd pay that without blinking. My dress is clean though a sample maybe I should just look into steaming it. Thanks!!!

Hi there! There is not a lot of alterations that need to be done and the owner mentioned they will be sending out to get dry cleaned not do it in house. Which I bet they add their own fee for the headache of doing all that. Hence my wondering how much it'd cost if I went directly to a specialty dry cleaning service
