Dress drama.

My fiancé and I are having two ceremonies.
I am Mexican and he is Vietnamese.
One traditional Vietnamese ceremony and one American style ceremony.
My bridesmaids will also wear traditional dresses and I too will wear a traditional Vietnamese bridal dress. My fiancé family most of them will be wearing their traditional dresses as well. So my stepmom asked what she should wear And I said a casual dress will be fine. Today she showed me the dress she wants to wear and I said it’s formal so her reply was “ I want to look good too” and I told her “ I’m not trying to make you look ugly but thats more of a reception dress” So I don’t know if I should just let her wear the dress to avoid drama or Give her different options. Picture of the type of dress she wants to wear for context. Dress drama. 1

You should just let her wear what she wants. Being a little overdressed isn’t the end of the world.

I think you should send her your idea of what Formal is and help her that way Smiley smile

Are you wanting her to be more conservative for the ceremony? Perhaps you can show her something with a removable shawl?

Oh no! For our American ceremony at our venue she can wear whatever formal dress she wants including a dress like the one I attached is perfect but for our tea ceremony it’s a bit too formal.

Here’s a photo of how my fiancé family will be dressed. And an example from his brothers wedding. They are dressed kind of formal but nottoo much. Dress drama. 2

To me, those tea photos are quite different styles, but perhaps suggest a summery printed maxi dress as a compromise
