Dress Dilemmas and hope's to sell!

Alyssa, on September 11, 2019 at 7:24 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 11
Hi everyone! So I've been having issues for several months with my wedding gown. As a little back story, I ordered my dress in April of 2018. When working with my boutique, I questioned the size that they ordered (I wanted to size up due to the designer sizes running small) but the owner assured me that she new what she was doing and everything would be fine. Fast forward a few months, and she closed her store down. I didn't receive my dress until the end of the year (second week of December) and upon receiving it, it was and still is too small. I've already talked to a seamstress who says that she believes it can be fixed, but after countless diets and attempts to stretch the dress (lots of try-ons) it is starting to feel like maybe this isn't the one. Also, I'm worried that after alterations I may still feel negative about it. Does anyone have any recommendations on selling designer dresses? My only other concern is that the dress was discontinued this year and the designer no longer makes this dress.

    Even if the dress is discontinued, I don’t see why you couldn’t resell the dress on Poshmark, Facebook Marketplace, stillwhite, or another wedding dress site. Plenty of discontinued dresses populate those sites. My one concern is if you’ve had the dress altered it may be more difficult to sell and you should be very clear in the description if that’s the case to prevent disgruntled customers.

    Thanks, Samantha! I will try those sites. I have not gotten it altered because of the possibility to sell it. Thank you for the advice!

    Definitely try on Facebook marketplace or a local Facebook group. Make sure to note that it's unaltered. It being discontinued sometimes helps it sell because they can't find it anywhere else.

    Facebook Market and Poshmark are great places to try listing your dress!

    I sold my dress regret purchase on Preownedweddingdress, it was a good experience. It was a new dress but I just ended up not loving the shape on me and it went to a really sweet girl.

    Hi Alyssa;

    Thanks for asking this question. First to talk about your concern, I say sell it. I have 3 wedding dresses and a plan to sell 2. My story is kind of like yours. I brought a dress sight unseen through a boutique and the silhouette is horrible on my body type. My plan is to sell it unaltered and hope for the best. Both dresses that I plan to sell came from the same boutique and they make me fell unattractive, which is not the way any bride wants to look on her big day. You'll spend the countless hours wondering if the dress will look ok after alterations and your wedding day wondering if its the right dress. Definitely not worth the worry...good luck finding th dress that's perfect for you and then post it so we can see how awesome it is.

    Thank you all for the support! In case anyone was wondering, I ordered a new dress. It'll be here a month before the wedding (panicking, lol!) But I feel so much more relaxed about this now! Thank you all!💕
