Dress dilemma

Lynne, on February 1, 2020 at 11:31 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 11
When I got me dress it was too small (could not zip it). Dress was ordered in a size that was dress sizes smaller than I was. Dress is now the exact size I am now. I have 18 months to my wedding. I have heard that a dress can only be sized down up to 2 sizes.

I don't know if I should slow down my weight loss or save up for a new dress.
I need any suggestions.

It’s up to you. Yes, generally a dress can only be sized down a max of two sizes without really messing up the style (or requiring such extensive and costly alterations you may as well get a new dress).

If it were me, I’d still continue to lose weight and then retry my dress about 11-12 months to see where I was at. Unless you bought your dress at David’s Bridal, consider 6-8 months for a new dress to come in and start round 1 alterations 6-8 weeks before your wedding.

That is what I was thinking. I got my current dress at David's Bridal. I will go back if I have to get a new dress.

I think David’s dresses take about 4-6 months? If you go back then go for more weight loss of you want! You’ve got plenty of time. 😊

Very true. They only took 2 weeks for the current dress. But, I think it was one off the rack.

My aunt said almost the same thing. She said to continue with my weight loss and we will look at dress issues in 1 year from today.

I’m going through this too. My dress fit perfectly when it came in. I plan on losing at least 30lbs and I’ve already lost 15. Getting another dress is absolutely out of the question for me because my dad spent 4K. Soooo either it fits with alterations or I’m gaining some weight back lol. It sucks because this is the most motivated I’ve ever been to lose weight so I want to take advantage of it! It’s such a tricky situation. And my dress is fully beaded so who knows what it will cost for alterations and what is even possible 😭

I bought my first dress at my heaviest, then proceeded to not think about it for several months. During those months, I lost about 30 pounds during a long process to keep my sugar in check. When my mom pointed it out to me, I went back to my dress....and it was too big. Took it back to David's Bridal, they helped me exchange it for a new style in a new size. Took about a month to come in, freshly made for me. Focus on you and losing weight by changing your lifestyle - your dress will come together when you're ready. 4 to 6 months is ample time for David's Bridal.

If you can buy off-the-rack, even better! But I know size options are limited.

Awesome job. I'm thinking of getting the dress I truly want if I need to get a new dress.
