Dress dilemma

Catherine, on January 16, 2020 at 12:44 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 8
Okay so I am really stuck between two dresses. I initially went to David’s bridal and fell in love with one dress but did not experience the whole “I feel like a bride crying moment” at the time which confused the hell out of me because I just thought in order to find the one you must cry. So I went to a few other stores and tried one a few more dresses but nothing compared to the dress I loved at David’s bridal which is around $1350
Until today I tried on a dress at a boutique near my area and fell in love with the dress and veil because it completed the whole look of the bride. My Mom and I both cried, the only bad part is that I didn’t think I would love this dress as much as a I did because it’s a bit simple and out of my budget. The dress is $1400, veil $750 and alterations start at $700. My total budget is $2k for everything. Both dresses are beautiful mermaid gowns but have differences one is more dramatic at the bottom and the other one had a low back with a lot of beading but a simple bottom. At the boutique I was able to see the entire picture but at David’s bridal I wasn’t able to find a veil that really complimented the dress I liked which I feel is affecting the whole “the one” experience. So my question is how did you guys settle for the “one” ? As of right now I’m leaning more towards the dress from the boutique but I’m not sure I want to spend so much money on a dress for one day.

Hey girl! Not everyone has that say yes to the dress moment- that's severely hyped up from tv. In fact, I was talked into a dress I wasn't completely in love with because everyone cried. Go with the dress that makes you feel beautiful and confident, the one you keep coming back to. Maybe you need to try them both on one more time just to see.

Yes to what Kathryn said, also remember you can find much cheaper veils on Amazon, Etsy, etc that are just as beautiful!!! Keep looking for a different veil.

Agree with previous posters...get the boutique dress if it’s “the one” and find a less expensive veil elsewhere. I know I couldn’t pay $750 for a veil.

Get the veil somewhere else. And have your alterations done outside of the bridal store. They always charge so much more for alterations! Don't settle for your dress, especially since you're only talking a $50 difference!! I didn't cry over my dress either, but I'm not that kind of person so I wasn't surprised. Honestly, most people I know didn't cry and that doesn't mean anything.

Thank you ladies I think I’m going to get the dress from the boutique and find a veil and alterations elsewhere. I appreciate your feedback and wish me luck finding a place that I can trust to do alterations.

I agree alterations are half of what my dress actually cost which is ridiculous to me. I didn’t get how they get our measurements and make a completely new dress for us but still can’t alter it to our measurements until after the dress is made. It makes no sense, but it’s part of the wedding business.
