I got my dress back in September for my June wedding. I had it in my hands a week after purchasing. I wanted something simple and inexpensive, so I got the Jones dress from BHLDN. I tried on a size 4 in the store. It fit me like a glove even though all the other dresses I tried on were a size 2. One week later when I received it, it wasn't fitted in the rib cage. That was my first disappointment.
I took my dress to be altered by a woman who was recommended by every single person I spoke to in the area. I'm not from here. All I needed was a hem, simple bustle, a slight strap adjustment and the back lowered. I had seen other brides on Instagram lower the back of their dress. So it clearly is possible. The dress has absolutely no embellishments of any kind on it. The seamstress had my dress for a month and a half. I went to pick it up and the bottom of the dress was satisfactory. the top was a monstrosity. She took the straps up so high that the cups were super weird and visible. The back. Ooh the back. It looked like a home ec. project. She had tucked in about 2 inches of fabric on either side and sewed over it. Then she cut the zipper awkwardly and folded it inside too! The hook and eye clasp didn't even work. Needless to say I was unimpressed. Her work was inexpensive. I honestly didn't trust someone who would do this work, so I left.
I complain about this to my coworker and she recommends a lady in her area. She lives about 35 minutes from me. I really wanted my clean, simple dress to look crisp. I took my dress to this lady. She was pretty stunned by the other person's work. I felt confident she would fix my dress. She has had my dress for nearly 2 months. I'm getting married on Friday.
I followed up about a month after meeting with her. She said she hadn't gotten to it yet but the alterations were simple and she would be working on it the following week and she would call me for a fitting. This past week I still hadn't heard from her. I called everyday and left a message. She never answered. Finally, on Friday, she texted me. She asked when I could pick it up. I said Friday, Saturday, Sunday. Monday or Tuesday lol. She told me she couldn't do Friday because of her grandsons baseball game, completely ignored the weekend and asked about the other 2 days. So I told her Monday. We agreed.
Yesterday, I leave from work to go get my dress. I get there, have to ring a cow bell for her to come out 😒, she comes out very confused. I tell her who I am and why I'm there. Still confused. Suddenly, she remembers. Tells me she didn't get a chance to work on the dress that day and when can I come back. Hahahahahha. She then tells me there was an accident in the family that morning. Her grandson got a flat tire from a pothole. OH MY! The grandson again. 😂 So off I go tomorrow to waste another hour+ of my time. I wanted to go to the movies tomorrow to relax with my FH but this grandson ruins everything apparently lol. The best part is she thanks me for being understanding and says sorry she didn't get a chance to call me. Call me when? Ever? Like forget you toad. Also, I think this woman has dementia. I don't know how my dress was ready for pick up but then not done.
Moral of the story. I cannot win. I do not care. All I can do is laugh.
