Dress dilema

Sara, on February 23, 2022 at 3:36 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 8
I'm going to try to make this easy to understand, I'm a plus size bride, I bought my dress back in August and was between sizes, just to be safe I went with the bigger size. By the time my dress came in I had lost 15lbs without doing anything, the lady at the shop looked kind of concerned about how big the dress was, but stated it wouldn't arrive in time if we reordered. Now a month later, I'm down another 10lbs and am afraid they won't be able to take enough off the dress to make it fit properly. It's still a little early for alterations, but I'm kind of freaking out. Again, I'm not trying to lose the weight, it's just kind of coming off. My mom takes care of costumes and other stuff. She is always saying it is easier to take something in than to let it out. If they are making you feel uncomfortable see who else may be able to do alterations. I would look into who can alter the dress and try not to worry about how they are making you feel. They shouldn't be shaming you.

Noone is shaming, I'm just worried they won't be able to take it in enough without destroying the shape of the dress. I know it's easier to take it in, but I feel like there's still limits to that

I misunderstood then, my apologies. Never hurts to reach out and ask them what they will be able to do and get a second opinion.
I hope you are able to get a good answer because you look lovely in the dress.

Did you talk to a seamstress or a consultant? A seamstress is going to be able to give you the better idea of whether or not it can be taken in - but it's definitely easier to take in than let out. That dress is beautiful on you!

I am not a seamstress but with your type of dress fabric it seems like it would be easier to take in than say all over beaded lace. I would recommend taking it to a private seamstress that does wedding gowns and not David's bridal though as they are known for price gouging.

Definitely looking for an actual seamstress, I just feel like its still a little early, esp if I'm going to end up losing more weight.

I would book an initial consultation about 3 months out. You should have many fitting appointments closer to the actual day for your weight loss. Like my wedding is 03/12 and my dress is at the alterations shop right now with a fitting on friday. Smiley smile

I’ve know several brides that had their dresses altered several sizes. They all had several alterations appointments over 2-3 months, including a final fitting 2 weeks before their wedding.
