dress delayed. normal?

Rubicole, on December 11, 2013 at 2:37 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 13

I've been so excited for this month. My dress was due to arrive any day now (it has been 8 months). I was so excited, so I called the boutique to see if they had a status update instead of waiting for them to call me (couldn't wait any longer). Good thing I did, because I found out that it won't be in until the end of March. I'm so bummed! The woman I spoke with asked to call me back after checking to see what happened.

When she called back, she told me that since I ordered my dress so early, my order was put on the back burner (with the manufacturer) until it was closer to the wedding. She said she had no idea that the designer worked this way, and that all designers work differently.

I find the story a little fishy, but.... Anybody ever hear of, or experience this?

I've heard of lots of people who had delayed dresses but never an excuse like that and not normally THAT delayed. With the exception of the disappointment, it's ok because you still have lots of time. That said, this is a busy time for manufacturers because of the influx of summer wedding dress orders that would have come in in the past few months.

That is a long day to be delayed - but sometimes I know they do bump back an order especially if you have longer to wait if there is a bride with a closer wear date. You could always call and ask Smiley smile they should be truthful.

Thanks. I find it strange that it's a 3 month delay, but I understand not being a priority. Feeling Okay about this, but nervous. I hope it doesn't get pushed back any further

    Nicole, who is your designer?

I fudged the wedding date by a few weeks for this very reason. I am nervous. The dress is supposed to come in four weeks before my real date and only two weeks before my fake one. Nervous.

Nicole, you have lots of time still. I ordered mine in August and was told 9 months. Even if you get it in March (I know it sucks to wait that long) you'll be just fine. Don't start stressing until it's May and you still haven't heard anything.

I didn't have an actual date when I shopped for my dress, and it just happened to work out that my pretend date was a week or two before the wedding date. So I've got that going for me!

So, I guess I'm hearing that this practice (setting orders aside for a couple months) is normal?

Are Allure gowns "cut to order"? If so, that may be the reason for the delay. You still have a lot of time. I've never heard of setting aside orders before but I've suspected that's what they do. I mean, why else do they ask your wedding date?

I had the same thing happen to me. I ordered my dress from Alfred Angelos. It was due to arrive at the end of October. I did the same thing as you and called before the called me. When I called they told me that my dress "did not pass final inspections" and that they had to remake a whole new dress. In any event, I was very upset at them for not calling me to tell me this. They "rushed" ordered the dress at their expense and I received the dress this past weekend. I wouldn't be nervous if I were you. It appears that these things do happen sometimes, but you have plenty of time to get it. You will be just fine!

Thanks. As long as it shows up in March! And @Lively, I think they are cut to order

That is a very long delay. May I ask what designer and what shop? Unfortunately there are some scams out there. I would look at YELP and GOOGLE to see there reviews and see if there were any other cases like this.
