Dress decision!

Colleen, on December 31, 2020 at 10:31 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 15

Hi all! I am driving myself nuts with this so I just need to vent and see if anyone has any words of wisdom. I was originally looking for a second hand dress because we are trying to be as sustainable as possible + I hated the idea of spending thousands on a dress to wear once. However, I decided to go try on dresses because I had no idea what I wanted to buy. I ended up loving a lot of dresses and had a so many choices that I just kept looking. All of the dresses that I liked were A-Line - I'm pretty self conscious and love the flowyness and not having to worry about my stomach and feeling like I need to suck it in. At my last appointment, I tried on a sheath dress and was like "DANG I LOOK GOOD" and bought it. It was way more than I wanted to spend and is going to take 4-6 months to come in.

in the last couple months I've been thinking a lot about these 2 other A-Line dresses that I tried on. Both of these dresses are half the price of the one I bought, AND I've been able to find samples on stillwhite and preownedweddingdresses for even cheaper! I'm so close to buying one of them and deciding once my dress comes in. I'm just worried that I won't be able to sell my original dress, or that I'll still love it when it finally comes in!!

what do I do!!! The problem isn't even that I don't like the dress I bought - I LOVE It and I think I look great in it!! I'm just worried that it doesn't fit my ~vision~ and that I'm going to regret not having a flowy A-Line skirt Smiley sad Smiley sad

The dress you bought is gorgeous and looks amazing on you! Personally, I think it looks better on you than the last 2. I know it was what you thought you wanted, but you clearly loved the dress enough to buy it. Also, you will get no where near what you paid for it if you try to sell it. I say stick with your first purchase, which you admit you love, and move on from looking at dresses.

It's okay to have second thoughts about your choice of dress, as I have and still do at times, but every time I put my dress back on I remember why I chose and decided on this one. The dress I chose looks nothing like the idea of what I was wanting or trying to go for, let alone it also does not have the look of my dream dress that I wanted either. But my dress makes me feel fantastic and amazing!

This is the type of dress I was looking for

So don't over worry yourself in the fact that you chose something different than what you thought you wanted or the "vision" you were going for. I think each bride has at least one moment, whether it is about her dress or something else within the wedding, that doesn't originally line up with her vision that she thought she would want or go for. All that matters is you are happy and LOVE your dress!! If you feel confident and that it makes you look absolutely amazing in it, then in my opinion you have made the right decision! So now you can start imagining about your FH's reaction when he first sees you in that beautiful dress of yours!

While I think all three dresses are pretty, selling a brand new dress can be very difficult and you likely will never get anywhere near the price that you paid for it. My currently trying to sell a dress I bought, but never wore because I decided to wear a different dress and have yet to sell it.

Hi sweetie first off congrats on getting engaged. I orignally wanted a big poofy ball gown or a line in ivory then I found my dress and its champagne with a ivory lace over lay I love my dress about a few weeks after I had purchsed my dress is spent 1049 on it with a sale that originally was 3000. I had dress regret then I saw the pictures and I love it.

The last one is the dress I picked, the first one was the vision I was going for.

Once you buy a dress, stop looking. You picked the one you did for a reason. Most women end up with a completely different style than they originally planned.

I personally like the third dress the best. Does the bridal shop have a return policy? Also my advice would be to stop looking at dresses once you decide which one you want. It'll just cause confusion

If you have the time, I'd wait to see if your dress that you ordered gives you the same feelings that it did when you first tried it on. If it doesn't and you're still thinking of others, then maybe consider looking for something else. But for now, stop looking! You clearly felt something about that dress that made you want it, so I would stick with that and stop thinking about what you thought you wanted. I thought I'd be in a ballgown and ended up with a gorgeous mermaid. Sometimes I think that maybe I should still be in a ballgown, but then I look back to the day I found my dress and see my face in it and I was SO happy and know I made the right choice. Everyone get the second thoughts about their dresses I think. It's very common. But if you loved it, stick with it!

Thank you everyone Smiley heart. This was very encouraging to read. I'll wait until I can try on my dress in my size and make sure it still gives me the same feeling Smiley smile I know I should've stoppped looking at dresses as soon as I bought it, so I'll do my best to stop looking. I unfollowed the designers I was following on instagram as a first step haha

I knew I wanted a lace a line but other than that I didn't really know what I wanted. I thought I wanted a solid white dress but ended up falling in love with dresses that weren't 100% white. The dress I chose made me feel like a bride and I loved it but my mom thought I would have gone with a more plain dress. I still have thoughts about should I have tried on more? But then I remind myself that I love my dress. I think you look amazing in your dress. It is gorgeous and I wish I could wear something like that.
