Dress color regret

Bridetobe2020, on December 29, 2019 at 11:25 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 31
I purchased my Stella York dress last June and tried it on in with a moscato underlay but ordered ivory/ivory. The last bit of my appointment was rushed by the consultant and I chose the color quickly without thinking too much about it. The sales associate held up a small square of ivory fabric to show me what it would look like and didn’t tell me that the lace would almost completely disappear with the ivory underlay. I called a couple weeks after I ordered and tried to change it to moscato but was firmly told that the order had been placed and there’s nothing I can do. I haven’t been able to get my mind off all this and am picking my dress up in 1.5 weeks and scared I’m not going to like the dress in ivory/ivory. I never got to try it on in ivory since the sample was moscato. I’m just venting and wondering if anyone else has been in my position? I am going to be devastated if I see the ivory/ivory version and am not crazy about it.

I got my dress in ivory - but, was able to try it on in nude/ivory & ivory/ivory.

You can still see the lace appliqué. Maybe you’re just overthinking it & starting the slope into dress regret? Be confident in your decision! I’m sure it’ll be beautiful! There has to be a reason why you didn’t go with the moscato underlay?

Did the lace “disappear” when the consultant put the ivory fabric underneath? If you tried on the moscato underlay, what was it about ivory that you liked more? Have you actually seen the finished dress to know whether you dislike it?

I think you’re panicking but I’m sure that your dress will be beautiful regardless of the underlay color. It’s technically still the same dress, style and silhouette that you loved. Also, if you’re already going in with negative thoughts, then those will probably take over when you don’t see moscato since this has been so heavily on your mind for weeks. Don’t let a dress be that important that it distracts you from the real reason for the wedding.... to marry your love! He doesn’t know or even care about ivory vs. moscato and he’ll only be thinking that you look absolutely gorgeous.

I didn’t go with moscato initially because I didn’t have the chance to explore the idea of underlay options and thought every bride ordered ivory so that’s what I did. It was my first time going dress shopping, and I didn’t have the best experience towards the end of my appointment when I felt rushed out and had to make decisions quickly Smiley sad

I haven’t seen the Finished dress in ivory/ivory yet which definitely contributes to some of my anxiety around this. I will try to reframe my thinking since I have no control over the color at this point.

I understand. To me, the ivory/ivory felt more “bridal”. Not that dresses the other colors aren’t beautiful or bridal - just a personal preference of mine. I really hope that you’re pleasantly surprised when your dress comes in. If not, I’m guessing the bridal shop won’t allow you to exchange it - so, maybe you could try selling it and buying another dress?

Oh I'm sorry. I hope you love the dress you end up with.

I really like ivory lace over a slightly different color underlay because I think it makes the ivory details stand out more. I was almost set on that feature, however I ended up with an ivory/ivory dress and I love it! My dress has ivory illusion lace on top, so you see the detail in the bust area and then it's more subtle where the rest of the dress liner comes in, but still visible. Depending on the manufacturer sometimes even "single color" dresses have enough of a difference between the liner color and the overlay color that you still see the details really well. It really just depends on the dress.

If you've done everything you can think of to change the color and are having no luck, I would just be patient and wait for the dress you ordered to come in. You might love it! Stressing about it when you don't even know the outcome is just too much energy wasted. You'll see what it looks like really soon. If you end up not liking it, then you can consider ordering a second dress and trying to sell the first one, or exploring other options, but for now just try to be patient and look at your dress with an open mind when it comes in.

Good luck and let us know the outcome!

It’s beautiful! I would really try not to stress about it until your dress comes in & you know for sure what you think about it.

Trust me, I get it - I’m the same way! It doesn’t help that planning a wedding comes with making hundreds of decisions to overthink and second guess lol

My daughter tried on her gown with a colored underlay but ordered ivory, sight unseen. It was beautiful! Trust your gut and know that when you go try it on, it will be amazing!! Below is her dress in ivory followed by a model pic with the colored underlay (I think it was called sand).

I'm sure that the model in your photo is in a dress that is all ivory - and not moscato and ivory. It should say on the page. Smiley smile

I also know this because my dress is by the same designer. The lace is noticeable, promise! Do you want a photo of both to see the difference?

I put up another one.... I love the ivory so much better! Like you I was worried, but then I realized that most of the photos were ivory/ivory and then I felt so much better. Moscato is a great wine, but not a good look for me. lol!

I have a similar skin tones so it’s great to see the ivory on you! Did you debate the moscato or was it an easy decision?

It was pretty easy - had I had my preference I would have ordered it in neon white. I really look better in a clearer color. However, white can be awful bright - so this pale ivory is really quite beautiful. I think I did go back just to look at colors because white was more money. I bought the sample gown to save on cost. I love it! (I had dress regret a few days ago, but I tried everything on and it changed it for me so much. So, if that happens to you - put everything on rather than look at dresses - lol!)
