Dress code?

Kate, on July 2, 2020 at 3:47 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 10
We have a semi-formal dress code for the wedding, as stated on our wedding website but we don’t think anyone has actually looked at the website or knows what type of attire we are hoping guests will have at our wedding. Several people are looking into outfits but haven’t asked what type of clothes to wear. How did you guys let everyone know what type of dress code you have? Since our wedding has been postponed, and may get postponed again, I’ve been thinking about doing a FB group to keep everyone up to date with what’s going on but also feel that’s really tacky.. ideas?

If it’s on your website then people will either go there or ask if you if they are concerned about what to wear. Most people will want to dress appropriately. Personally I wouldn’t put anything else out there.

If you have something specific and its already stated on your website, I would hope you'd be ok but if not you can always add an insert card with your invites (if you haven't already sent them out). Our event will either be black tie optional or creative black tie and that will be placed on the bottom of our invite.

Yeah unfortunately no one went to our website-it was also the RSVP and they let us know instead and asked all the questions (apart from what to wear!) that we had answers to on the website

People will automatically dress semi formal if you don’t tell them otherwise

Yea. That gets annoying. Its like I asked you to check out the website for more information for a reason. Unless they aren't tech savvy then that's understandable.

That’s what I thought too but some people have asked if they can just wear beach like attire since it’s a beach wedding.

Semiformal (Sunday best) is the default that people automatically use without needing to be told. The only time dress code should be mentioned (by word of mouth, never on the invites) is if the venue is in a location where extreme temperature is an issue or if the venue has a strict dress code for entry.

Also, many people are tech savvy but wedding websites are a brand new trend that very few people outside the wedding industry are aware or familiar with.

We don’t have a wedding website for this exact reason (that and I’m a big fan of beautifully done stationery) so we just put ‘black tie attire’ on our invitations.

I think either update your website to include the dress code in another section as well, or make it more clear. Otherwise just tell people as they ask you - it might get a bit frustrating for you guys (and your guests) to disperse information another way.
