Dress cleaning after wild cake cutting??

Dj Tanner, on June 12, 2021 at 8:07 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 18
So the husband and I got pretty wild during our cake cutting. We certainly didn’t plan on getting wild with it, but it just sort of happened lol. Needless to say there’s cake all over my dress. Has anyone had their dress cleaned they got cake on it? Do you know if they can remove stains or what not? I plan on taking it to a dry cleaner, but I don’t know if I should go to a special type of dry cleaner? Probably one that does wedding dresses I guess. Let me know what you guys think and if you’ve ever had your dress cleaned and if there were stains that got removed.

Totally off topic: are you going to be doing a BAM?! I would love to see pics of your wedding and both your dresses!

Yeah probably in like 16 to 20 weeks when I get my video and photos in. Hopefully I get them sooner though

Your usual dry cleaner should be able to take care of it, but bring it in ASAP. The longer it sits the less likely it is to remove the stain.

I would generally recommend going to a dry cleaner who has a wedding gown specialist. They typically have better knowledge of the finer fabrics used in wedding gowns, and also the kinds of stains that are more commonly seen from weddings.

I think the biggest concern would be any kind of buttercream, because it has oils (butter) and those can be difficult to lift out. But a cleaner who has a gown specialist will generally do a consultation with you and give you reasonable expectations for what they can do.

I got a small stain on my dress at my wedding and they brought me seltzer water to remove the stain, but for a larger stain I would definitely take it to be professionally cleaned.

That’s how long they quoted you to get your pictures back? That’s a long time!
I look forward to seeing them though

Definitely bring it to a dry cleaner ASAP! 16-20 weeks,
Wow that’s a long time. Our contract requires our photographer to provide all photos and videos within 35 days of the wedding. Even that seems like a long time, I couldn’t wait months.

Yeah, I mean it’s cinematography so there’s a lot more editing that they do I guess?? I don’t know pfftt lol, but apparently from what everyone is saying it is way too long of a turnaround time lol. I’m hoping they just say that to everyone and then return it in less time? Their work is amazing so I definitely trust them, but it sucks that everyone else gets theirs way earlier before me. I thought it was a bit long too but figured that was standard. I’m hoping they just give a longer promise time to try to ‘over deliver’ if it comes in earlier..... probably not.

It’s not photos it’s video. If I got photos by them they say 8 weeks. But I guess from what everyone is saying that’s still a long time. Whatever, at this point they were like the only vendors that I was happy with so I’m OK with it haha

Ah. 8 weeks isn’t too bad. Ours took 6 I think.
Sorry they were all you were happy with.

Even with that, 6-8 weeks is definitely the maximum amount of time it should take. So maybe check back in with them then if it hasnt come through by then to check on the progress. So glad you were happy with them!! That’s wildly important.

Having done video (cinematography specifically), I don't think this is that crazy of a turnaround time, especially if they are a high-demand company and they are doing the editing themselves.

My husband doesn't take that long, but that's because he generally edits 90+ hours a week (by choice, he just works better this way). If you estimate that they work a normal amount of time in a week (40-ish hours), cutting out two days for being at events, and assume they have more than one wedding video at a time, this isn't a crazy turnaround.

I usually see the super-quick turnarounds when the company outsources editing.
