Dress changed to corset back

Kari, on September 4, 2020 at 8:05 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 12
Hi!! I had my dress fitting today and unfortunately it would zip but it was very tight and caused my back to look very unflattering. My wedding is in a month. The dress is a very low back with lace and then the rest is tulle. It will zip up to the tulle but not on the lace portion. The seamstress suggested removing the zipper and adding a corset for that section. I read online and from these forums that it’s very common but I am FREAKING out about how it will look and if I will like it but really had no other option. Has anyone had this done and liked it? THANK YOU!

I'm extremely glad I asked to have a corset back put in. Full disclosure - this was always my plan. I was freaked out that I would need to be a very specific weight with all the final fittings, because I fluctuate +/- 5lbs pretty casually and didn't want to stress about it.

I think it creates a really great silhouette because it can cinch in your waist, so I have absolutely no regrets. I've lost a few pounds since my final weigh in, and I'm not nervous about it.

It'll look great, go for it!!! Just make sure they put in a good panel/ same color as the dress so that if you're a little wider or narrower that it looks good.

Mine was originally zipper, I ordered it with corset back instead. Same as Emily, I wanted that wiggle room up and down. The zipper caused a weird, back fat fold hahaha 😆 the corset back fixed that. I have not had my fitting started yet, but I have tired on the dress with the corset back when it arrived, and I’m super happy I went that way!

I'm getting my zipper changed to a corset, and my seamstress did that for her own dress. It seems fairly common. Thanks, pandemic pounds!

If your weight fluxs wildly up and down, you don't have to worry too much... (±0-5 lbs). Your dress will still fit. It will also have a more decorative back and cinch your waist

The con is you will need more help on your wedding day because zippers are easier to get on. The other problem is corset loop failure... Eyelet corset is the best way to prevent this but this is full disclosure.

Oh yeah, good point on the prep. When I went for my last fitting we did a video of the lady lacing it up so I could share it with my bridesmaids. OP, I would recommend this.

I have a lace dress and this is exactly what I’m doing. I had the same problem and thought corset wouldn’t be the easiest/ cheapest option. My next fitting is Tuesday I think lol. I can let you know how it goes then !
