Dress Change?

Angela, on January 26, 2022 at 5:28 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 4 16

Dress change? Is anyone doing a dress change/ 2nd look/ reception dress. My soon to be hubby was just suggesting to me that I should think about getting one. My gown, I'm in LOVE with and looks stunning, however it is not exactly the best cut to dance with (pic attached). What kind of other dresses or styles are some of you going with or thinking of if you are getting or have a second one? Also, where did you go to look and/or buy it. I have looked at David's bridal (didn't like anything there) and a bunch online but am finding myself lost.

Your dress looks beautiful on you!! But I can see how it may not be the most comfortable for eating and dancing. I will be changing into a second dress for the after party and bar hopping. I love my dress, but it has a train which I don’t want to worry about dragging around, tripping over or it getting stepped on all night. People say I’m crazy, but I actually bought 2 of the same dress! I plan to have one shortened into a party dress so that I can technically wear my dress all night long!
What kind of dress are you thinking for a reception dress? Are you still wanting it to be very bridal, or more of a party dress or evening gown?

So, I was adamant I wasn't going to change - I paid a lot for my beautiful, giant ballgown of a dress and I want to wear it as long as possible!

However, I had sleeves added to it as our wedding was in the cooler months, only to have to postpone to the middle of our summer!

So, I do have a backup dress in case I get beyond hot, but honestly, I don't want to change into it, not least because if I wear my ballgown, no one can see my feet when we're dancing together, haha!

I guess it really depends on your vibe. The dress I got is a replica of this one -

pink is my favourite colour and I loved the sparkly hearts and the romance of it! It only cost about $150 AUD. What I'm saying is, you don't have to buy an actual bridal gown! It's ok if you think outside the box and just buy a pretty white dress, or even a coloured one!

Thank you so much! That's where I'm having trouble. Prob more party-ish but don't want to just totally blend into the rest of the crowd either and not seem like the bride. Hopefully that's not to selfish sounding. I know I'd like it to either be white or champagne: sequin, beaded and not floor length. Also, for the record I think that's a great idea for your second dress!

That’s definitely not selfish sounding at all!
I would suggest checking out stores like BHLDN, Nordstrom, Nieman Marcus, etc. and you may even be able to find something really cute at a prom/special occasion dress store! Little white dresses are really in right now!
Here are a few different styles I found online. Not sure if this is what you’re going for. Dress Change? 3

I wanted to change into a more comfortable dress for my backyard wedding. I bought a bunch but nothing I loved more than my main dress so I returned them. Fast forward to my wedding day: I wore my gown for the ceremony and reception and into the night at our bonfire! There’s nothing wrong with staying in your dress the entire night. Yours looks like it can be bustled to make it easier to dance. I truly love the idea of changing but I also think the night goes by so quick that maybe it might not be worth it in some cases. Best of luck in your decisionSmiley smile

I love the idea of a second dress, for the dame reasons. I want to be able to dance all night without the worry of getting my dress dirty or it being stepped on. I would choose a shorter dress though maybe tea length.

A second dress is a great idea! I think that the second dress should be different in style, be more comfortable and suitable for dancing

Love love love your wedding gown!!!! I like the idea th previous poster had of buying the same gown and having it shortened. Brilliant idea. I’m doing two gowns as well. My reception dress is a wedding gown. But the train will be shortened to allow for dancing. It’s the one in the right Dress Change? 13

I LOVE your wedding dress on you! But yes I'm changing into a second dress for the reception. I'm doing a knee length. I did have the bustle done on my wedding gown just in case I decide to wear it the whole time though...

Omg thanks for sharing! This makes me feel so much better because I’m getting a fit n flare dress (long sleeves) plus a mermaid dress (with an amazing dramatic tulle lace). My BM said they are too similar but I am honestly think they are totally different and really wanted the glam tulle for the first dance! Lol i literally didn’t think I was going to be like this AT ALL but hey crap changes and it’s still fitting within my budget so oh well!

BIG THANK TO YOU ALL!!!!! This has been very helpful to me and has given me ideas! I WILL def be going with a second dress and I think it will be something completely opposite of what the first one is, more of a white party/cocktail dress as after the ceremony everyone is going out to paint the town read and don't want to be wearing my beautiful gown in a bar lol! Many thanks again!!!
