Dress bustle

Maria, on January 24, 2017 at 11:54 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 16

I have my alterations appt this week and discovered all the different bustles there are. So many! I know the bustle depends on what type of dress you have. I'd still like to see some examples if possible and feedback on any pros and cons.

I'm also at this stage. Deciding if I should bustle or not. I have a mermaid dress. Here is a link to another thread about bustles

I don't have any pics yet, but I had a seven point bustle on my dress (tulle).

My advice for those deciding whether or not to bustle: If you have a train, I think it most definitely needs to be bustled. Right after the ceremony my MOH tried to bustle my dress but was having a hard time with the buttons. I told her to screw it and I went out to the reception without it bustled. The train got stepped on by pretty much everyone. Luckily, MIL's friend was able to get it done after about the 100th time someone stepped on it.

I've always liked the look of a French bustle (under) because I like the way it's tucked away. I went to my alterations appt a few weeks ago and she told me it would be best to do an American bustle (outer) because my dress has so many layers. Probably saved me some money on alterations. So I agree that it depends on your dress. Here is a pic of the back of my dress. I didn't get a pic of it with the bustle.

Honestly, we didn't have wiggle room in our budget for a bustle so I just put the loop around my wrist. It was effective.

And here it is bustled. She had to put 9 different ones in because of the ruffles. I love it!

I thought I wanted the French bustle but when my seamstress showed me how the French bustle looked I didn't like it because it left a huge bubble in the back of the dress. I am doing a 7 point bustle as well. I am sorry I don't have any pictures either.

Definitely bustle if you have any sort of train. This will keep people from stepping all over you at the reception. I had a 10 point bustle.

I have no idea what it's called but it was my favorite that day. I don't have to decide until my 2nd appt. Still waiting for my dress to arrive Smiley sad

I just went to seamstress today and got the bustle done. It is three points French bustle. I wish the bottom of the bustle was totally even with under layers but I guess it doesn't work that way. I looooove the train in this picture. Will post bustle in next post.

With the three point bustle. Not the best angle as my mom isn't the best with her phone.

I loved my bustle, however it was never bustled at my wedding, because it was easier to do the first dance with DH with the loop on my arm instead. Then after that dance, was the dance with my father, and then I totally forgot to have it bustled after that, because I was having too much fun dancing! I ended up changing into a shorter dress not too long after though, so that's probably why.
