Dress bust too big but seamstress won't take it in

I believe low back dresses do require different alteration methods due to the structuring and fit, but you could also try getting a second opinion with another seamstress for further input! I also know shortening the straps definitely help with providing a more snug fit, so I would try that! I hope you're able to get everything tailored to your desires! Good luck!

I am also a seamstress and I would agree with your seamstress that taking in the side seems won't do much if you have a low/open back. Shortening up the straps, however, can improve the fit, as that will limit how far the front can fall away from your torso. Once the straps have been altered, you can also use fashion tape to help secure the cups in place.
