Dress alterations

Helen, on May 22, 2019 at 11:08 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 4

Hi there- I am just wondering what the average length of time is between picking up your dress after final alterations, and getting married?

My first fitting is on 13 June (sheer terror FYI), and I get married on 22 July. I don't think it will take more than 2 fittings- so I am thinking I might have my dress roughly 4 weeks before the big day? Is that normal?

Thinking about maintaining my weight exactly for a whole month makes me pretty stressed (I should say that my dress is v form fitting, so there is nowhere to hide, and even a couple of pounds would make a difference I think).

Any insight much appreciated!

I wouldn't stress until your first alterations appointment, than you will get more of an idea of how many alteration appointments its going to take!

I agree with Alyssa. Unless you need some major alterations, 2 fittings is generally enough. But I wouldn't make yourself crazy about it until you have your first fitting and know what you will need.

    Hi Helen!

It is typical for brides to have their final fitting roughly 3 weeks before their wedding day, so it sounds like your timeline is absolutely perfect.

As the pp’s mentioned, there is no need to worry about this until you have had your first fitting and know exactly what needs to be done for your dress. If you do still feel anxious about the amount of time it will take, you should talk about this with your seamstress. They will know exactly how long the job will take and they may be able to offer you a speedier turn around time (this can cost a bit extra but may be worth it for your peace of mind).

    What is your dress like?

Thanks everyone- I think my meaning got a bit lost. I'm not so much worried that there wont be enough time for my alterations (I don't actually think there will be much to do). I'm more worried about having the dress "finished" four weeks before the wedding, and then having to exactly maintain my weight for a month. My dress is a v form fitting sheath dress, so any fluctuations in weight- even small ones- would make a difference to the look of the dress I think....

I'm wondering whether to push my final fitting back to closer to the day?!

    Thanks again everyone.
