Dress Alterations

Jodie, on May 23, 2019 at 8:09 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 12
What are your thoughts of getting your dress altered at a tailor shop rather than the store you bought it? I bought mine at David's Bridal and I fear the alterations will be wicked expensive.

I don't see the problem. Many boutiques don't offer alterations anyway. Just find someone reputable with good reviews.

I did not get my dress altered at the store I bought it from. I went to a separate tailor.

I am not getting my dress altered where I bought it. I think thats fine as long as they know what they are doing.

I bought mine from Davids Bridal as well and they already told me to shorten the dress and put a bussell I am looking at $450+ I nearly fainted. I was thinking the same thing... I just feel like if Davids Bridal messes the dress up, they have to replace it. Would it be the same for a boutique?

I was going to get mine done at David’s bridal but they apparently won’t work on non-David’s dresses. I took mine to alterations express and it was very professional & affordable! To shorten the straps (they have to take them apart because they’re lace & tulle) and add a 3-point bustle was only $106. It’ll be done in 2 weeks or less and they’ll also steam & press my dress so it’ll be ready to wear!

My bridal salon was quoting $300 - $600 for alterations. I got them done at a local tailor for $140.

David's is notorious for being pricey. If you know a good tailor already it'd be worth checking with them.

I heard horror stories about David bridal, I would take it to a well reviewed tailor

Yes, I'm going to get them done at a local family owned shop. 😊

I didn't get mine altered at the bridal place where I bought it because they don't have an in-house seamstress, however; they did give me a list of ones that they work with and I chose her from that list. I chose the closest one to me, with the best reviews.
