Dress alterations

Monika, on January 31, 2023 at 11:59 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 3

I had a baby and now my wedding dress doesn't fit. I get married in less than 3 months and have to do alterations now. My seamstress said they'll put in a corset but I'm worried it'll ruin how the dress will look. Does anyone know how they would add a corset to an illusion back and do you have pictures of what It could look like? I want to keep as much of the top buttons and illusion back and sleeves as possible.

I would talk with your seamstress and get a very detailed plan from them, especially about the back. I have never seen an illusion back turned into a corset. Typically, if you have an illusion back, they remove all the sheer fabric and replace it with solid, sturdy fabric that can support a corset.

I don't want to freak you out, and I have little knowledge about tailoring/seamstresses but I thought illusion backs couldn't be turned into a corset without ruining the dress.

Can you call them and talk it over in person/see what they want to do?

When are you due? The place I'm getting my alterations done for the fit check about 4 weeks before the wedding,
