Dress alterations

Ashley, on March 12, 2020 at 9:39 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 4
I left my dress at a fabric shop today and wanting to get other people’s opinions. I don’t plan on shortening the train because I really do love everything about it. However, at the bridal place I had 4 inch wedges on and the length of the dress was perfect...so I had ordered 4inch wedges to wear and today the dress was too long. She said she couldn’t pull it from the waist and she didn’t want to cut it because it will take away the detail at the bottom. She said she could fold the fabric up and sew it at the hem and press it. Has anyone done this? Did it turn out good? I just can’t picture it in my dress and it’s making me nervous! I would have her only hem the under layer to where you won’t trip
And leave the top layer as is 🤷🏾‍♀️🤷🏾‍♀️🤷🏾‍♀️🤷🏾‍♀️

My seamstress hemmed my dress at the bottom. She had to remove the applique, which was the detail at the bottom of my dress. Hem up the fabric and then reapply the applique/details at the bottom. I had talked to 2 seamstress and this was their suggestion. It looked like it had never been hemmed once she was done. Not sure if that's an option for your dress. Hope that helps.

I agree with pp. Mine was able to do the same. They do remove it and reattach after they add it. Talk to someone else. See what they say.

A good seamstress would remove the applique by hand, hem the dress, and then reapply the applique. Honestly I would not at all do the alteration recommended by the fabric shop, as it is not standard practice and it doesn't sound like they know how to work with detailed wedding dresses.
