Dress alterations

I need help with dress alterations I just had my first dress alteration. My wedding is May 28, 2022 lots of things factor as to why I had to wait to go. The first place I went to recommend from the store I got my dress said they couldn’t alter because the dress need 11 inches taken in. As happy as that is to hear I started to freak out. I drove 3 hours to this place so luckily I found another place on the spot. They pinned everything and apparently my dress is a mermaid style which I didn’t know and when they went to pin it as such I said no. Looking back at pictures from when I tried the dress on at the store a year ago. I want to go forward with the mermaid style. The steam stress already has the hemming pinned and I’m worried if I wait till May 6 to pick it up and say hey let’s take it in some more at my thigh and back of my knee it’ll make the dress shorter. When it’s pinned to be hemmed as me wearing 3 in heels and now looking at pictures of the dress from today I feel like the dress will look odd that’s it not a mermaid style. I’ll post pictures of the dress from a year ago and from today. Maybe I’m being crazy about it looking strange without the mermaid style. I also need to know if it’s taken it in more later will make the dress will be
