Dress alterations- losing weight

Sarah, on July 22, 2019 at 6:07 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 13
I purchased my gown last weekend! I’m so excited- it was the first one I tried on! I’m at my highest weight now and while I am not looking to go on a diet for my wedding, I am working on living a healthier lifestyle and that will include weight changes. I ordered my dress to fit now as I didn’t want pressure to be a certain size. Realistically how much can my gown be taken in? I’m reading two sizes and panicking a little because I have 15 months until the wedding. I would die if I had to buy a new one because alterations couldn’t be done! My shop caps the alterations cost at $500 so I know it can be pricey to alter but it can’t go above that. Help, I’m freaking out!

If you love that dress that much, I would just try to make sure not to lose too much weight? Your FH loves you the way you are now, so he clearly doesn’t need you to be a certain size to want to marry you! Only lose enough that you can still alter it, but not so much you need to buy a new dress 🤷‍♀️

I read only one size and maybe 3 inches but where you have a lace top it might not like up correctly if they try to change it.
If it's not too much weight a corset back can help.

My dress was taken in more than 2 sizes so it can be done. It just depends on the gown and seamstress.

My dress is being taken in 2+ sizes, but every dress is different, and every seamstress is different. Is it possible to wait to order the dress for a few months? If it only takes 6 months to come in maybe wait to order until you are like 9 months out so you will be closer to your size

You look hot in your dress already! Hope you’ll post pics closer to the big day, that’s a stunning dress. I love the color, the lace and shape. That dress is everything.

Corsets are very forgiving, I know the general rule is taken in two sizes but I’ve seen brides take in four sizes with a corset. My only concern is the lace might need to be rearranged if you take it in that much. Will you need a hem or other alterations as well? I’d try to reserve as much as you can towards the bodice just in case it’s more work than you thought.

That dress is gorgeous on you. I know my DIL lost 30 pounds before here wedding and they took her dress in several sizes but it was super expensive and she didn’t like the way it looked. Try not to lose too much weight. You look beautiful now.

Can you call the bridal store and see if they can hold the order for a few months then go back in and be remeasured? Then if you lose even more weight you won’t have to worry about them taking in as much.
Your dress is gorgeous by the way!

I would wait to place an order until you’re maybe 8 months before the wedding. There is no reason you have to order 15 months in advance. This way you’ll see how much weight loss you have in the first 7 months & you won’t have to alter the dress more than 2 sizes.
If you’re doing alterations at the same shop where you bought the gown, you should talk to their seamstress before placing an order, to confirm what can & cannot be done with lace top & alterations. Seamstress will be able to tell you this the best.

My seamstress told me up to 2 sizes. You are smart to get the size you are now so no pressure (and that dress is beautiful on you now!). But I bet you can lose a dress size no problem. You can do it!

Can you talk to your seamstress about it? I think size alterations depend on the dress and the seamstress as others have said. By the way, your dress is fabulous and you look amazing in it!
