Dress alterations are soooo pricey. Thoughts on other options

Are alterations really this much??! So I found my dress, THE dress, at David’s bridal on the clearance rack. It was everything I wanted. My only problem now is I’m a shorty and it needs to be hemmed and taken in a little bit but I’ve tried two places and they’re charging at least $700 which is more than I even paid for the dress!. Any thoughts on other things I can do besides pay $700. Dress alterations are soooo pricey. Thoughts on other options 1

Check for the price of alterations to take-in the dress as needed. Maybe consider a petticoat to poof out the dress so it is not in the way of your feet. Otherwise, the lace or appliques can be hard to adjust when shortening the gown. Also, you might avoid a bustle by adding a loop to hold the train of the dress if that could seem to work well. But you save some alterations if you avoid a bustle.

One thing helpful for others getting a gown is to find out what type of alterations cost more due to the difficulty of work.
