Dress alteration timeline

Courtney, on July 13, 2017 at 7:36 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 11

Dress alteration timeline. How many weeks before wedding should i schedule my first alteration appt? How many weeks before wedding should dress be done and all ready to go with no more alterations needed. My brother in law owns a tailor store and a bridal shop and says 4-6 weeks to get first alteration started, this scares me. I guess i want my dress done and ready to go sitting in my closet 4 to 6 weeks before wedding,so i dont

I had my first fitting about 8 weeks out, second one a month out and my last one will be about 2 weeks before.

I wouldn't want my dress done too early in case my weight fluctuates

Date twin! I'm getting mine altered at the salon I bought it at. They initially wanted to schedule it for tomorrow but I'm going the first Friday in August. She seemed a little worried when I asked to push it off that long. You should also check with who is doing the alterations, what your dress is like and what you have to get done. For example, if you need the bust taken in and hemmed, you have to do that in two separate appointments. I don't see someone being able to do all that work in four weeks.

You don't want it too far out because it doesn't take long for your body to change. The closer to the wedding the better the fit.

Ok. I dont know how extensive it is to alter dressed. I have a huge ballgown that needs shortened up because i am so short and i need my straps hemmed up a bit. Easier said than done i guess. But get scared as the time gets closer, but def get the body changes

I can't get my wedding date to show no matter what I do. UGH! Anyway, I am also 9/30/17.

I am getting my alterations done at the salon where I purchased the dress and they have me scheduled for 7/31, 8/18, 9/15, and in case I need one more 9/28. I would hope I would not be needing more alterations beyond three so the 9/28 date should be my pick up date.

I had my first fitting during the last week of May, and I was able to take my dress home the first week of July. (It would have been the last week of June but I was out of town, and it was originally supposed to be finished the week before that). Keeping in mind that the dress shop I used ordered 2 sizes larger than what I needed, and due to the style the dress was difficult to alter and we ended up literally having to remove 1/3 of the fabric due to it being so large, other women don't need as long to get their dresses altered.

If your wedding is in September and you would like your dress finished early, I would say start alterations now to be on the safe side.

I spoke to the shop i am having alterations done at, and they told me to come in ASAP, because it needs to be cleaned as well. I bought a dress "off the rack" and needs to be taken in quite a bit. My first fitting is tomorrow, but have not scheduled the rest yet. It may be a bit early, but i don't expect my body to change much from now to wedding Smiley smile

I had my first fitting the first week in May. I bought my dress "off the rack" as well and needed a good bit(almost a whole foot) hemmed off and cleaned. My next fitting isn't until Mid October for a true fitting.
