Dress alteration scraps

Melaina, on February 28, 2017 at 11:07 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 18

Hey everyone,

So I was wondering what everyone is doing with their dress scraps from their alterations. I really want to turn mine into nice lingerie maybe for the wedding night but I wasn't sure if there is a company that does that or if you are having someone do it. Just looking for ideas because I don't want those beautiful scrap pieces to go to waste.

Nonna, you're so pretty! A jacket is a neat idea Smiley smile I didn't do anything... Didn't have many scraps to do much with.

LOL Rachel, for an old lady as one poster told me I was?

Thank you, Sweetie, I felt great in that dress and the jacket was a blessing.

I have no idea about turning it into lingerie, but I would think maybe you could contact an etsy seller that does lingerie and see if you could send them fabric.

There is also a company (Angel babies, maybe?) that takes donated wedding gowns and turns them into clothing for infants that don't make it home from the hospital. If they take full wedding gowns, perhaps they would also take alterations pieces, but honestly I don't really know.

Sorry, that's a lot of speculation, so it's probably not very helpful.

Nonna- you looked gorgeous! I only had about 1.5 inches taken off the hem of my skirt--but my skirt has so much fabric (Its a really delicate silk) that there must be 10 yards of this fabric "ribbon"...so I'm giving it to my florist to wrap the bouquets/boutonnieres with.

Yeah Rachel, a real piece of work, not that I mind being my age. She was cruisin' was all Smiley smile

    Blair, what a great idea!

Murray, my friend who had a bridal shop and is still a seamstress does that very thing.

I used lace from my mom's dress to make a heart and sew it into my dress. I'm going to remove the heart from my dress before I get it preserved, add the scraps from my dress as a border, and hopefully pass the heart down later.

I have scraps from when they altered my gran's wedding dress (she saved everything), so I'm doing similar to SLR and having a piece sewn to the inside of my dress. I was also thinking of using some on my bouquet somewhere.

Not sure if there will be scraps from my dress, but I'll ask and save for a shadow box or something.

There is also probably a local place that will use it to make dresses/gowns for infants who don't make it home from the hospital to be buried in (miscarriages, stillbirths). We use a group called "tender mercies" at my hospital. Everything donated goes to a family that has lost a baby. If I ever get rid of my dress I am donating it to them.

I'm kinda of jealous because I love this idea! So sad I won't have much scraps left over.

Did you ever end up finding a place that would make the lingerie? I'm getting parried in Jan 2019 and I love the idea!
