Dress Alteration Concerns

Dress Alteration Concerns 1
During my last fitting, I noticed my boobs ended below the cups where the red line is. I was wearing boob tape. The seamstress said I would need to lift my boobs higher, but again, wearing boob tape already, it’s a backless dress and I’m a D-Cup.

I’m concerned that the dress cannot be altered to accommodate, especially with the lace panels. The seamstress shortened the straps already as the dress was 2 sizes or more too large when I bought it. I think this is also causing rippling around the armpit and it was uncomfortable the last time I wore jr (but there is also extra fabric pinned there that will be removed from the rib area as I lost weight). The seamstress kept having to smooth down my straps.

I tried talking to the shop about it today but they didnt listen and said I should go see them in Mid-October. ( a month before my wedding.) Thoughts?

I think returning mid-October would be perfect timing, especially if you’ve already lost weight. You want alterations done as close to the wedding as possible to ensure a proper fit. However, that is only if the seamstress is acknowledging the issue and has a plan to fix it. It looks to me like she shortened the straps too much. It is clear the cups are sitting entirely too high on your chest. So I would clarify with her that she has a plan to fix that in mid-October. Otherwise, you are going to need to search for a new seamstress.

Thanks Cece! This does make me feel better if you think it can be fixed. When I spoke to the seamstress yesterday, she didn’t seem to understand what the issue was and kept asking if I wanted more cleavage- which I do not!

Just to be clear, if she lowers the straps you WILL have more cleavage. If you don’t want more cleavage, I think it’s going to be a much more involved fix; likely having to completely redo the structure of the bodice in order to make the cups larger and lower. It’s going to be much more time-consuming, more difficult, and more expensive.

Yeah! Understood. I only meant that I think the seamstress thought my problem was it wasn’t “sexy” enough. The fiancée will be happy we more cleavage at any rate! Lol

Hahaha! Well hey, if that’s the way your seamstress understands how to fix the problem, then I would say sure more cleavage! I would just stress to her that you want the seams of the bottom of the cups to fall where they are supposed to- under your breasts! It sounds like she made a mistake, and rather than fix it she is now trying to get you to alter your body to accommodate it. That’s not how this works! You paid her to alter the dress to fit your body, not the other way around.
