Dream dress is abroad

Hi all! I found my dream dress at an affordable price and I was about to buy it the other night and it said the price was approx. The dress is in Australia and I am in the US- California. I was trying to research duties and custom fees and I’m just confused. Some brides have been shocked at the fees and it threw off the whole budget. I don’t want that. The dress is 2000 AU and about $1240 US.
Has anyone had experience buying something this price from Australia? The dress is on still white btw-great website.

I’ve bought expensive things($800) abroad from Korea and never had to pay a customs fee, I’m in the US too. Your value can’t exceed $2000 and it can’t be illegal goods or commercial goods. It’s a case by case basis but basically they look to see if your purchase is for personal use or not. A single wedding dress shouldn’t cause any red flags. Your fee would be determined by the amount of paperwork they would need to fill out.
