Down the aisle music

FutureMrs.Lockhart, on April 13, 2016 at 3:42 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 23

Ok so are you guys walking down the aisle to music ? The traditional wedding song? If so how? On a blue tooth speaker? Who will be in charge of starting this music and volume?? Or will your dj be covering this ?? Are your bridesmaids walking out to music??

If my venue allows it, I picked a song for me to walk down the aisle to and one for when we walk back down the aisle. We'll find out in about a month what exactly is allowed (doing it on a military base). At the very least, I'll ask someone to start the music when we start.

We had acoustic guitarists play live music and the bridesmaids walked down to "Canon in D" and I walked out to "Here comes the Bride."

No bridal party, but we want to have music playing. We're going to create a spotify playlist (and pay for premium so no commercials) and hopefully time it perfectly so that the playlist ends at the right time (someone will be in charge to turn it off if necessary).

What we don't know is exactly how to connect it--they told us a laptop could connect to their system so I'm assuming any USB will work (crossing our fingers until our rehearsal).

The Bridal Party is walking down the aisle to "The Wedding Song (There Is Love)" By Peter, Paul, & Mary.

And then my Parents are walking me down to "One Hand One Heart" from West Side Story (But the Glee Version since there's a lot of talking in the original movie version).

Originally I was going to use the venue's speakers and play it on an iPod with my friend doing the queuing, but my DJ (friend of a friend, not through a company) said he'd come and set up early if I threw him and extra hundred. SOLD. TOTALLY and COMPLETELY SOLD.

You are referring to the processional music. IMO you need some kind of music or it will be awkward and people will have trouble walking (since normally you all match each others pace by walking to the music). Your DJ can do that for you and if your ceremony and reception are all in one place that's a piece of cake. If they are in 2 separate locations it might be harder for him/her to set up in one place/tear down/move/set up again. In that case personally I would see if your ceremony location has a built in sound system (many do) and if not look into your own speakers but keep in mind they will have to fill the whole space with sound.

Some people use 1 song for the BP and the bride, some give the bride a song of her own, it's all personal choice. It can also depend on how big your BP is. I only had 2 BMs and the moms to walk down before me so we had plenty of time in 1 song. But if you have parents, grandparents, and 10 BMs/GMs you might run out of time and need to consider using more than one song. You can always have more than one picked out and then do a test run at the rehearsal and just see what works best at that point.

My DJ covered the ceremony music (ceremony & reception in the same place). I did all instrumentals. Bridal party walked down to The Piano Guys- 1000 years and I walked down to The Piano Guys- Somewhere Over the Rainbow/Simple Gifts.

Canon in D. I hired a violin and cello duo to play for the ceremony.

I am torn between two options:

-Cannon in D by the O'Neill Brothers Group

-Once in a Lifetime by Landon Austin

Edited to answer the rest of your questions:

-We will have a DOC provided by our venue playing the music and yes, our bridal party will be walking out to a different song than the one that my father and I will be walking down to.

Search wedding playlists on Spotify, there are great suggestions on there!

Oooooh, I LOVE Once in a Lifetime. SUCH a romantic and special song. IMO, more unique of a choice. It was almost our first dance song (it came down to 2) but DH preferred the other and plus we found out it was the #1 song the day he was born so that kind of cinched it. We played it as one of our slow songs though and it's in our video.

Our venue has a sound system that even goes out to the garden ceremony area and our DJ will be playing a couple songs we've picked out. We picked one song for the bridal party and one for me. ETA: My song is the acoustic version of Latch by Sam Smith (it's so beautiful if you've never heard it!) And FH wants to use Love by Musiq Soulchild for the bridal party.

The DJ I hired will also be taking care of our ceremony music. We originally were going to just use a bose speaker but the DJ added it on for us, less stress having a pro do it

The organist at the church played our music. The bridesmaids walked in to Trumpet Voluntary and I waked down the aisle to Cannon in D, which has always been my dream.

We had a string trio provide prelude and ceremony music. We had a DJ for the reception and he provided the ceremony sound equipment (mic and speakers for the readers and officiant) for a small fee. We had a large bridal party - his grandfather, his mother, his father (separately, because they're divorced) were sat, then DH, his 8 GM and the officiant came in, then my 8 BM and the RB and FG processed! haha. So we had 2 songs for the processional: Jesu, Joy Of Man’s Desiring by Bach and Canon in D by Pachelbel (for the BMs). I processed to the traditional Bridal Chorus by Wagner.

Honestly, you have to have some kind of music! It indicates to guests that the ceremony is starting (so they sit down, shut up, turn off their cell phones haha) and it would be sooooo awkward if you had no music!! It is a must!

I'm going very traditional with the music. My venue comes with a sound technician but I'm considering having a piano player for the ceremony. I already bought a cd to play prior the ceremony starting when the guests are arriving.

My mom hired a harpist lol I'm going the traditional route for myself, but I'm not sure what I want my bridesmaids to walk down to. If I had paid for it, my DJ would have covered the reception music.

I'll probably walk to Canon in D. We have a string quartet. I should probably start thinking about these things.
