Down payments for Dj/mc

I didn’t book/ pay a deposit to any vendors without looking over and signing a contract first.

I wouldn't do that for any vendor.

Usually they go hand in hand. I have signed several contracts that also came with a credit card deposit form or authorization that myself the client and the vendor sign.

I would wait for the contract first

That's how it went for our Venue so I was a little thrown back that they are asking for a payment before even sending the contract...I was told by the vendor that in order to receive a contract I needed to make the down payment. urghhh

I wouldn't pay any money before a contract had been signed by both parties.

I got the contract first then made the payment. Our payment is 100% refundable though if something were to happen, so I knew at least that if I made the payment before the contract was signed I could get my money back. I wouldn’t put money down first. You sign the contract first because they can take your money and run if you didn’t sign anything first.

Could be a scam! Watch out.

Most places sent me a contract and told me once the deposit and contract were signed and returned, we were good to go.

Nope! Every vendor we booked we signed the contract, then handed over the deposit!

That sounds shady. You should be able to review/sign the contract before paying a deposit.
