Double Barrel Last Name

Samantha, on November 5, 2017 at 8:38 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 5

I'm considering a double barrel, unhyphenated last name. First Maiden FHLast. Like Sasha Baron Cohen or Hillary Rodham Clinton. Does anyone have any experience with doing this? I did check that it's allowed in DC where I live. Are they're any additional problems in every day life that you would run into that you wouldn't with a hyphenated last name?

I did that the first time I was married: First Maiden Last. It was good! Got divorced, went back to original birth name. Remarried and I am not First Middle Last. No biggie, just a preference. Do what makes you comfortable. I didn't sign the full name the first time, I just signed First Last. I have no regrets about dropping my maiden name.

I plan on using them both. Same as you'd use a hyphenated last name. I guess I'm really worried about automated forms that don't allow two names and all of a sudden having trouble with airline tickets, pharmacy, etc.

I'm dropping my middle name and moving my maiden to middle then taking FHs name. I won't be going by it socially but it will help professionally.

I'm doing a triple barreled last name "MaidenName de MarriedName" hence my user name. I love what it means to him and his family.

Literally the only time it's a problem when I have to spell it over the phone.
